Australia Reinstates Knighthoods

Knights and dames reinstated in change to Australia's honours system

“Pre-eminent” Australians will become knights and dames at the Queen’s approval for the first time since 1989 after a shock announcement by the staunchly monarchist prime minister, creating a new tier of honour as an “important grace note” in our national life.

Actually Sir Sceadugenga has a nice ring to it.

I never voted for the pricks but everybody has their price.

Wonder if it comes with a quid? whistling.gif

"Actually Sir Sceadugenga has a nice ring to it." It would do if anyone knew how to pronounce it biggrin.png

Arise sir neverdie though.....jeez......would he even accept it?

It is quite easy really-

Scud from old Arabic meaning rocket type

Dug- shortened exclamation of poo-from old saxon

and ga meaning ga ga- common text speak

which in the common tongue means

there is a rocket coming- we are in the s-hit- aghhhhh

but then I am partaking of a rather fine single malt, please disregard this post

Personally met two of the greatest Aussie knights - at least according to British viewpoint.

Sir Donald Bradman and Sir Robert Menzies.

Good to see the cousins from down under have rejoined the chivalric orders of the civilised society.

(And have now gone off on another wild goose chase a thousand kilometres away from the last carefully calculated position of MH370)

The problem with this is that Labor has said it'll dismantle the royal honours again when it gets back into power. It makes a mockery of the system. I don't see why it should have been scrapped in the first place, but it was a mistake to try to bring the system back. Rise, Sir Pointless.

Dame Edna would surely be Australia's best known (and most appreciated) peer which says a lot for the standard. rolleyes.gif

Brilliant.

I once watched him destroy a prime time TV crew by asking the interviewer what Joan Collins put behind her ears to attract men....

Her ankles.

One of the lighting crew laughed so hard he fell over.

And they want to get rid of the ABC.

It was done for only one reason, and whilst I don't agree with the reasoning, it did just what it was designed to do.

He embarrassed Shorten and his mother in law, the Governor General, both solid republicans. By accepting the honour, the GG looked a bloody hypocrite, and she is.

Regarding labor scrapping the awards when they get back in, that's going to be a long time, as the news on the economy and what the coalition has to do to make the economy work again is revealed. That news is being drip fed to the punters so that the government can get as much benefit from it as possible, by keeping the incompetence of labor in the news.

Labor inherited $70 Billion in the bank after 10 Howard surpluses, and just two terms later, have left accumulated deficits of about $300 Billion. Take out $125 Billion that was wasted combating the GFC, and they still wasted $250 Billion!!! Labor has never been able to manage money, local, state or federal.

I asked my mum why they didn't take that 10 quid to Australia deal in the sixties or fifties whenever.

We were already in East Africa at the time - right yeah - 48 hours to get out of Uganda before Idi chops yer head off. I know what i would have done...

I do have some distant cousins down under, they pop up occasionally. Doing Europe.

But no royalty.

I like Australians.

I was a £10 Pom. Went out with the folks when I was 10 years old. Came back to the UK with the folks when I was 14 sad.png

I could have been an Ocker!

Clearly the reintroduction of knighthoods is a step on the road to a home-grown Aussie monarchy.... perhaps on a rotating model like Malaysia.

I just wonder who would be the Northern Territories nominee.

After all, even the Americans would love to have a monarchy with all the trappings, if only they could find something different to call it. They just love our Queen!

Ah dear Miss Patsy ... our fair shores would have been richer for your presence.

.

Maybe i may arrive one day. My nephew and his new bride are thinking about going there.

And of course Aunty has to visit for at least six months. May find me a husband.

Every time I've visited Oz I've always found myself surrounded by queens so I don't understand what the problem is rolleyes.gif
