I haven't flown with this mob for a while and I'm sure last time it was pointless checking in online as I still had to queue up in the same line as everyone else to get the boarding pass confirmation, despite having printed my boarding pass at home.

Is it still the same?

I think you'll find the procedure the same as before. They need to see your face and fondle your relevant documents, especially the credit card. However, they are very efficient, if you arrive somewhat early, beating the laggards. Airasia and Koreanair are the best international haulers out of Chiang Mai.

Thanks. Dunno about arriving early though as far as I remember they only have one desk serving all flights, so all the punters overlap anyway?

If you have no checked bag, and if you check in online, you can proceed directly to the gate with your printed boarding pass.

You sure about this? I seem to remember being turned around before when I done this.

Yes, I am sure. I fly Air Asia about twice per month from CNX. I never check a bag and go direct to gate.

What about the clause attached stating documents must be checked at the documents check counter? I know KL has a separate counter, but in CNX it's the one cattle queue for every punter...post-46734-0-19219600-1395826509_thumb.j

I flew to KL last week. Four desks checking us through. It was international of course, so passports had to be checked.

I had a check-in form printed, and it went through quite fast. Depends on the folk in front., If they can't read the rules regarding too much baggage etc, it always slows things down.,

Four desks open in CNX by Airasia??? Never seen that before! But back to original point, you still have to go through the desk even with no check luggage?

You must have your documents checked first before proceeding to immigration, regardless whether you have checked in online or have only cabin luggage. Happened to me recently.

Exactly - depending on the airport you might even be able to check-in baggage at an 'island' desk. Personally I always have carry on baggage when traveling by air.

Not in my case, checked in on line, straight through international gate on production of my printed seat pass, and onto immigration. No problem. Done it many times.

i was there last week, they had five or six desks open. check-in took about three or four minutes and we were done.

Well in that case I certainly hope they have become more serious about checking passports, especially since the unfortunate disaster with the Malaysian Airlines flight, 4 people got past the check-in / gate with stolen passports.

On the other hand NOK at Don Muang would win the award for lack of attention to checking of passports and ID cards.

^ It's Immigration's job to check passports. Airlines do check it for their own purposes, specifically because they don't want to get stuck havign to fly someone back at their own expense in case the person doesn't make it through immigration on the destination side. But it's Immigration's responsibility and nobody elses.

Thanks for all the wild stabs in the dark / guesses. As expected got turned around at immigration / security with no checked in luggage and a perfectly printed boarding pass. Had to go to check in to get a printed boarding pass with 'international' stamped on it and managed to get stuck behind a yank bawbag who was attempting to reduce his luggage at the desk and was very apologetic 'not ma fault, ah didn't pack this.'post-46734-0-07534700-1395895008_thumb.j

Only for international flights out of CNX docs need to be verified at counters....but in BKK Don Muang can proceed to CIQ without counter check..

does a person have to show a credit card for an eticket purchased on line? or just a form of id like a passport? and if its your only id?

According to the online booking rules the credit card used for the purchase must be available for inspection. In many many flights I have never been asked to show my credit card, indeed I have bought tickets for guests and they were never challenged.

On domestic flight with an eticket, some sort of proof of identity is required by security on entry to the domestic departures area.

On international flights from BKK then an eticket will get you into the international departure area (still have to show proof of identity to security - passport) then be processed by immigration.

Never left on international flight for CNX so I have no experience at that airport.

thanx,

what i understand is this: if a ticket is bought through a travel agent, dont need to show credit card or whatever...

if its a ticket that has been booked on line then yes? because we have one local israeli credit card and i used that for hubby's ticket through an agent; then mine i booked through my international credit card, and one booking through a debit card. howver i am not giving hubby our local card as no need for it in deep dark issaan, it will just get lost or taken. as for mine, i want it on me. both going there and returning home, hubby is on his own so want to know all this stuff ahead of time... cause he wont have a clue./// he will have his thai passport/israeli passport, expired thai id card (has to renew), and if needed , israeli id card but prefer that that stay here also, in israel...

he is only going bkk in and out. i am going bkk international both ways but one way to CX... does all that make any difference?
