The ambiguously gay men of Thai 7-11s ... a satang for your thoughts

Warning: Thailand and gay content!clap2.gif

Growing up with American 7-11s I never had any erotic interest in the clerks at 7-11s. They were usually dumpy and middle aged. OK, I probably bought my first porn mags there, but that's nothing to do with the clerks.

Here in Thailand, viva la difference!

Walking down Pattaya Tai tonight I saw a Thai guy on the street wearing a 7-11 shirt. It hit me ... I thought that was hot. It could be (ironically) a Family Mart shirt as well.

Going into 7-11s in Thailand ... it's more than about beer and mobile topups!

OK, it's not exactly a fetish with the 7-11 workers, but can anyone else relate to this, or am I a truly sick human being (don't answer that!)?

Most of them are to fem for my taste...like most Thai gay boys. Most of them are in the fast lane to ladyboysville. (When they get there I may then be interested.) I like little stud-muffins in gay fellas and I can't remember the last Thai 7-11 clerk I saw that fit that description. But hey, different strokes... Now if we were talking Cambodian store clerks or moto-drivers...viva-voom!

Thanks for your take on this.

In my experience, they're mostly Somchai average in looks and masculinity levels.

The femme ones yes, you know they're probably gay.

I'm really referring to the ones which you don't know, but being Thailand ...

  • 2 weeks later...

I rarely go into a 7-11.... but I have been surprised by how often I see, here in Isan, a man in heavy make-up. Take for example the bank teller who attended to me this morning (but I couldn't extract a trace of a smile from him!).

The OP speaks disparagingly of his lack of erotic attraction of the middle aged whilst, interestingly, walking on Pattaya Tai.

Ahhh! What pleasure is to be found in the Forbidden Fruit, particularly that of the immature variety!

How so very fortunate that Boyz Town was just around the corner....

Glad that you know the local tourism zones. I haven't been to that tourist trap in SEVERAL years mate. What forbidden fruit? Gay sex with men (young men, middle aged men, and old men) is legal in Thailand which might be bad news to people who call gay people "sexual deviants" as you have.

BTW: If you like dumpy chain smoking overweight old men with bad skin, be my guest! Have a ball. I won't judge. That's a promise.

It's interesting that in Thailand 7-11 they tend to force out their workers by middle age. I think that's really horrible from a human rights POV ... I've always wondered what happens to such workers who work there for several years and then age pushed out. What are they qualified for at that point?

Age discrimination in Thailand hiring policies (and firing) is very common and apparently legal. This topic has been discussed on the wider forum ... specifically about 7-11. Also about for Bookazine and movie theater ticket clerks where you see adds seeking lighter skin. They don't usually hire middle aged workers (it may or may not be a set policy, not getting into that level of detail here) and it's not common for the younger ones to work there through middle age or longer. This is very different than in the U.S. where they even hire elderly workers for such jobs.

Is it possible they get "pushed up" into store management and above? That used to be the pattern in USA fast-food franchises (pre-80's). Start out as a fry-cook, end up managing all the chain stores in Denver (happened to a diligent friend of mine).

Don't know for sure, just bringing up the possibility.

Take a look at a typical English-language newspaper job ad for a secretarial position in Thailand: "Wanted: 21-28 years old, female, attractive, single. Will train if necessary."

Sorry, old uglies. Sweep the street.

I doubt it. I think upward mobility has to do with the lightness of your skin and your family name.

One thing I have noticed (with one noticeable exception), most of the help at 7-11 tend to be quite dark skinned. I travel to several different provinces on a regular basis. I wonder if most of them are local or whether they come from other locations.

So, can take that as a yes?

Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

You can take anything any way you like, mi amigo. That's your business. I do recommend Astroglide though for your MSM activities.

I agree if they've worked as a clerk for 20 years they are generally not going to be seen as promotion material. I think the corporate office thing is an entirely different career track requiring MUCH more education to start with. Not that there's anything wrong with that part, but it seems to me if someone can clerk at 20 or 30 or 40 they can clerk at 50 or 60 and it's just the image they are going for to push the oldies out or not hire older workers in the first place. Not that it's the greatest job in the world but it buys rice.

Then yes it is, thanks.

I wasn't even clear on the exact question, dude. I did get it was some kind of insinuation.

If you want to ask me a personal question, either do so by PM or much better yet, don't. thumbsup.gif

7-11 is a minimum wage job, that has a lot to do with why it is mostly young people.

Actually it isn't the lowest job. You need some schooling for it. Obviously not university. For the most part they are well trained, pleasant, and competent, so hats off the 7-11 and Family Mart retail workers. I do think it's sad to do such a boring job for life, but it's better than no job. If you've been doing that for 10 to 15 years and then you're seen as too old, then what? Rice farming?

Anyway, it is their business decision and such age tracking seems legal and accepted in Thailand, so when in Bangkok!

Sorry dude, next time don't respond to it.

First of all, deceptive editing changing the meaning. 1zgarz5.gif

Second of all, excellent idea as it's clear you're only here to be an annoyance.

What was deceptive? I did nothing but crop it, something you do all the time.
