Any Options for Insurance While Spending a few Months in the US?

Featured Replies

Any American out there who has any advice about finding medical coverage for time spent in the states?

My wife and I have insurance through ACS (France) here and I am happy with it, but it provides only emergency injury coverage for time spent in the US and the time limit on that is 7 weeks.

www.ehealthinsurance.com Get an STM......many options and prices. HCC and IHC are pretty good, imo.

If you live in Thailand for more than 3 months a year, try Columbus online or Nomad Travel Insurance

Would one care to elucidate on 'STM', 'HCC' & 'IMC'. It may just help the OP (and others) who, as his insurance company appears to be non US based, may not understand your 'abbreviated' terminoligy.

Clarity in any international forum is very helpful, especilly if we remember we are not all from one nation!

PS Please don't ask me (us) to go to that website you quoted to find out the answers to the 'meanings'.

It seems to me, travel insurance offers almost no coverage. I have returned to the states with ACS's 7-week window and my fingers crossed. If I fell off a roof or got in a car wreck, there may be some coverage there, but I can't get the details from the company, despite several emails asking specific questions. 'STM', 'HCC' & 'IMC'. also mean nothing to me. I will look em up, but it will probably be wasting time.

I'm really looking for someone who has bought something and gone back to the states and wound up sick and discovered the hard way what was not covered, or been surprised about what was.

Bupa sorted sonething out for my wife in the UK, but the USA is a whole different matter. Worth a try though, take Mae Rim road out of the city, at superhighway turn left towards Nimanhaemen, 2nd or 3rd shop in the row of shop houses at the end of the slip road is their office, English spoken.
