Chalerm not worried about violence during red-shirt rally

If all attendees are searched so that not even a box of matches is taken, then all should be well.

There's some confusion around this year. Are they all meant to be bringing their own 1 litre bottles of petrol this year, or has Chalerm organized this to be collected on site?

No need to BYOB this year. They're working with 75cl ones now....Chalerm's been working on this all year, so now his stockpile of empties will come in handy.. ? Edited by Rob8891

Chalerm said he had visited the rally venue, and said he was not worried about violence.

He said he had learnt from Aree Krainara, chief guard for the United Front of Democracy Against Dictatorship (UDD), and Nuttawut Saikuar, secretary-general of the UDD, that there would be no marching.

Instead there will be a full bar set up and pole dancers, so Chalerm decided to spend the weekend.

Just hope the yellows don't provoke then or it could get nasty. Nice to see that Chalerm has assigned a detail to protect Sutheps residence now say thank you by keeping your people away from the reds.

But it,s OK for the redshirts to shoot and kill anti government protesters, right smile.png Just normal behaviour from what I have seen !

That might be your opinion but I have to disagree with. The violence on both sides is unacceptable

Does anyone know if Chalerm makes these statements early morning, or do reporters get his comments after he's had a few drops the previous evening??

He always seems to be more talkative, irrational and combative in the afternoons possibly because of a long, liquid lunch.

Morning, noon & night his statements are irrational & unthinking;follows the Puppeteer's orders & like to be centre-stage!!

Mobile toilets are set up on Aksa Road in Nakhon Pathom

BANGKOK: -- A safe house has been established nearby Aksa Road, where the pro-government red shirts plan to hold a mass rally tomorrow, and the Metropolitan Police will look after the homes of important figures in the area, director of the Centre for the Administration of Peace and Order Chalerm Yoobamrung, said yesterday.

Residences to be protected include the home of Suthep Thaugsuban, secretary-general of the anti-government People's Democratic Reform Committee, he said.

Deputy police chief Pol General Worapong Chewprecha has been assigned to oversee security operations at the rally, Chalerm, who is also caretaker Labour Minister, said.

The rally venue was spacious, and intelligence had found that a lot of protesters would come from the Northeast, he said.

One guard was shot dead and four others were wounded on Tuesday in a broad-daylight attack that further inflamed the political conflict.

The group from the Students and People's Network for Thailand's Reform, a faction of the PDRC, was returning from a rally led by Suthep at the Chaeng Wattana camp in a three-vehicle convoy when it was hit by gunfire as it was passing a tollgate and entering an expressway in Nonthaburi.

Nisit Sinthuprai, a leader of red shirts in the Northeast and director of the Red Shirts Academy, said 200,000 members would come to join the mass mobilisation tomorrow.

The People's Radio Media Group, a red-shirt offshoot, would start its march as part of the campaign against the Constitutional Court and the National Anti-Corruption Commission by proceeding from place to place and distributing flyers detailing the injustices they believed the organisations had committed.

Spokesman Sornrak Malaithong said the marchers would start off this afternoon from The Mall Bang Kapi, Imperial World Lat Phrao and Future Park Rangsit. They would visit Bangkok's inner areas sometime in the future but would avoid the PDRC's protest sites, Sornrak said.

Wonder if Mr Happy Toilet was the instigator of the high level toilets, you will be able to pee on anyone you don't like now from a great height.

If 200,000 are coming from the North-East, that's 200,000 x 500 Baht (at least) = 100 million Baht + expenses. Who's funding this, I wonder?

standard zero dollar songkran trip from issan to bangkok, been going on about 4 out the last 5 years.

The Yellow's will provoke once more and then blame the Reds.

No need to make up stories dude. Search for political violence in Thailand on Youtube or just with Google and in 90% of the time it involves reds.

So Chalerm's message is: Don't go to Suthep's rallies because people will attack those rallies. Come to red rallies because there will be no violence.

Sick man.

They do like to riot at Songkran. 2009 and 2010 just for starters.

They should relocate the rallies in front of his house.

In memory of 2010, why not bring along some gallons of blood, since red rouge members can whatever they want.

Yes, The Reds Shirts ND Chalerm have a track record of peace, honesty and law and order. Back to history lessons for you.

The reds have a history of violence so I think you should be the one going back to history lessons.

So you admit that The Reds are violent?

YES.

it boggles my mind as to why they would select such a beautiful location to destroy. with the addition to the PRINCE's residence only 200M away. and other political fugures which the reds would love to "not be violent to" nearby.... i wonder what they are up to. this road has never been trashed... NEVER. this road looks down to buddamonthon... and you can clearly see a gigantic walking buddah image. and every local here has respected the street and kept clean. and... the reds... they dont give a fuuuuuuuu...

as for chalerm. it doesnt take a dog to know hes lying.

Not really relevant to this subject though, is it?

We are talking about your team, and their penchant for violence. Were you in Bangkok in 2009 and 2010?

And exactly what relevance does that have to our discussion here ?

Why do they elevate the port-o-sans like that? Why don't they just put them all on ground level like everywhere else in the world?

was thinking the same thing. Trying to squeeze your butt cheeks together and climbing a ladder at the same time.

ah.. they are for snipers, my opinion.. i found it odd too. there are alot of odd things going on here... i drove by it last night. ... not a single red shirt. maily black shirts. they will also have a "thai broke ass carnival" yes.. even equipped with a 5 meter ferris wheel. anything to attract people i guess. but those portapotty dont look too stable. ... and all the waste gets funnelled into tank below. .. and its a very small water tank. so i KNOW they have to replace it once.. or twice a day. .. which i know they wont... .. they may end up just dumping it on the side. at which time i will cut their hands off.

What about the homes of those of us in the area who are not "important figures?" BTW, Uttayan Road is already closed off leading from Sai 4 to Sai 3. Had to take long, time-wasting circuitous route to get back home on Sai 3. But for some reason, traffic was still getting on to Uttayan leading from Sai 3 to Sai 4--at least part of the way. I hope the temperature skyrockets and really blisters the reds' behinds this weekend.

of course he is not worried, while everyone else is..

Suthep and his lovers should be worried as the old saying "For they have sown the wind, and they shall reap the whirlwind." applies to them

That would be a first. It has always been the other way around. Did you just arrive here, or just step out of a cave in Udon? Who played martyr after provoking, shooting, killing, instigating, burning in 2010? Who are always tossing grenades and using M79'S?

Do some basic research before posting moronic comments.

The yellows always did provoke the reds !

Every time the reds won an election the yellows rallied to get them out, in 2006 they get the army with them to provoke with a coup after that same army put the yellows in charge , dont need to do research to know the Yellows always provoked the reds ! (maybe not with violence, but it stays provoking)

Totally agree. As long as there are yellows the red-shirts will feel provoked. That's why Dr. weng talked about eradicating Democrats and Ms. thida upped the ante with her 'time to wipe out reactionairs'. Even the new UDD head Jatuporn talks about "we'll show them".
