British sniper kills 6 Taliban soldiers with 1 bullet

Featured Replies

A British sniper killed six enemy combatants in Afghanistan with a single shot when he hit the trigger switch of a suicide bomber, causing the device to explode.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the 20-year-old marksman’s shot, fired from 930 yards away, killed the suicide bomber and five others in the ensuing blast in Kakaran in Southern Afghanistan.

The soldier, a lance corporal in the Coldstream Guards, was believed to be using an L115A3 gun -- the Army’s most powerful sniper weapon. The sniper had previously killed a Taliban machine-gunner from 1,465 yards with his first shot on the tour of duty, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Reminds me of the Hongkong policeman who shot himself five times in the head.

Knowing several HK policemen - it could have taken five shots to penetrate the skull. thumbsup.gif

(There was the tale of the District Commissioner - one of only two, if I remember correctly - who went to Macau with the Hong Kong Hash for a relaxing weekend. He partook of the pleasures of Macau, but when he got back to HK the photos were published and his wife immediately divorced him. This must have been in the early nineties when I was running with the Kowloon Hash on Monday nights. The story was gleefully retold by us, because the HK H3 was a snooty lot and you joined by invitation only)

When I 1at read the report, I shared it on FB with the comment great shot.

That's a heck of a shot. I consider myself a shooter, but don't take myself seriously beyond 600 yards with a .308 bolt, or 400 yards with an M16. Then I expect to hit my target.

Sometimes we play with the .308 at 800 yards, but it takes me 4 or 5 shots to zero in, and that's with a spotter.

But 1,000 or 1400 yards?

A Household Cav sniper killed 2 Taliban at a range of approx 2700 yards with the same L115A3 rifle.

Also in Afghan a PPCLI sniper team were successful at 2500 and 2600 yards with their .50 Tac-50.

Trained professionals with excellent hardware. Scarily though the Tac-50 is available for "civilian use"....quite what "use" is unclear.
