S. Africa Urges Thailand To Tackle Human Trafficking

BANGKOK: -- The South African Ambassador has proposed a joint effort to fight human traffickers alongside Thailand, in an effort to end the "sex slave" business between the two nations.

Ms. Robina P. Marks met with Ms. Paweena Hongsakul, Minister of Social Development and Human Security, in Pathum Thani province today to discuss the plan, which would encourage more cooperation between Thailand and South Africa, and a more robust legal procedure to prosecute those involved in the sex trade.

Numerous Thai women have been lured by human traffickers to South Africa with prospect of lucrative careers, only to be locked in brothels and "massage parlours" where they were forced to become prostitutes once they arrived at their destination.

Ms. Paweena said she has assured Ms. Marks that the Thai authorities will adopt stronger measures to curb the human trafficking trades in Thailand, such as monitoring agencies which advertise jobs in South Africa to Thai women.

Any job agency that is found to violate or ignore regulations imposed by the Ministry of Labour will be severely punished, Ms. Paweena said.

Doesnt it seem strange S. Africa comes to get Thailand to make tougher enforcement in trafficking when it is S. Africans who are doing the trafficking and it is in S. Africa where they are commiting this offence. If i remember correctly this stems from the thai woman who was tryin to get her family out of Africa and away from the massage parlor business they were tricked into working at. One would think S. Africa are the ones to check businesses and documents for workers overseas upon arrival.

Africa where they are commiting this offence. If i remember correctly this stems from the thai woman who was tryin to get her family out of Africa and away from the massage parlor business they were tricked into working at. One would think S. Africa are the ones to check businesses and documents for workers overseas upon arrival.

Talk about calling the pot black, RSA would be last country to partner a people trafficking treaty, you can't even send a registered parcel out of there, because it will get nicked.

Of course...RSA has bigger problems than a few Thai hookers getting caught up in SA, with half of Sub-Sahara Africa trying to get into the country illegally and of course like their Thai brethen, the SA goverment is too busy looting the treasury, gun running, smuggling drugs, defrauding the public to be worried about human trafficing etc however it might get some attention if Jacob Zuma needs some Thai maids for his "new house" provided he can get the British tax payer to fund it...

Maybe in reality this meeting was to discuss future "business" ventures between both goverments, as the approach to "governing" a country is very similar in both cases.

No one deserves to become a slave no matter their IQ. Economic desparation is not a matter of intelligence, it's a matter of basic survival. Thailand needs to improve the standard of living for Thai people at the lowest end of its economy with more jobs, better paying jobs, training, opportunity with attractive capital investments, and GDP growth. If it can reduce or eliminate people's desparation, they needn't get fooled into promises of better lives outside of the Country.

You blame the person standing in front of a gun for abuse, not the one who pulls the trigger.

As said the Zuma Government should curtail it but they never will as it is the most corrupt government that I know

SA should mind the own business..... They would better talk about wildlife trade at the hub in Thailand. That would make sense.
