CAPO Director concerned about political tension during Songkran festival

BANGKOK, 11 April 2014 (NNT) - The Director of the Center for the Administration of Peace and Order (CAPO), Chalerm Yubamrung, has expressed concerns about possible political tensions that may lead to problems during the Songkran Festival. Separately, he has given assurances that the Red Shirt leader from Pathum Thani will be prosecuted for breaking Thailand's Lese Majeste law.

Mr. Chalerm said that he is worried that political incidents might possibly occur during the Songkran festival, as the Constituional Court will soon rule on whether the prime minister acted unconstitutionally when she ordered the transfer of Thawil Pliensri from National Security Council chief to an inactive post. There is also an upcoming ruling expected from the National Anti-Corruption Commission on whether the prime minister is liable for unlawful corruption concerning the rice pledging scheme. If either decision are deemed unsatisfactory by the public, Mr. Chalerm has said that it might cause chaos.

Mr. Chalerm also gave assurances that charges will be brought against Wuthipong Kotthammakhun, also known as Ko Tee, for defying Article 112 of the Criminal Code by making offensive remarks concerning the monarchy since there is obvious evidence recorded on a video posted on the internet. Chalerm added that he does not know Ko Tee personally.

In addition, Mr. Chalerm warned Suthep Thaugsuban, the Secretary of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), that the ongoing protests could damage to the country and that it might lead to a loss of competitiveness within the ASEAN Economic Community. Mr. Chalerm said that an election should take place shortly and requested that the Election Commission specify a new general election date because it is the best way forward for Thailand.

Yes if Ko Tee ever bothers to return he will be prosecuted but meanwhile the BIB, DSI, Uncle Tom Cobley and all will be unable to locate him but will remain sure he's still in the country.

Nothing can be more damaging to the country than the buffoon that made this statement.

Wow...what a concept in that political tension in a country can cause competitiveness problems. If this concept is proven true Khun Chalerm could be in the running for a Nobel Price in Economics.

I thought it was generally agreed, that there weren't going to be any demonstrations over Songkran, did nobody brief the illustrious CAPO-Director about that ? blink.png

Everone being too busy throwing water, from the caretaker-PM in Chiang Mai down, to be bothered to throw grenades. thumbsup.gif

Now political-tension after Songkran, that would be another matter, especially after the 180-day deadline from the Amnesty-Bill runs out. wink.png

"In addition, Mr. Chalerm ....... said that an election should take place shortly and requested that the Election Commission specify a new general election date because it is the best way forward for Thailand"

Is this so the PT will know how long they have to delay any legal proceeding?

I would have thought that for a democratic election to take place the voters should know who they will be voting for - and who will be banned

Relax Lermy, baby....... have another drink!

We all know you want her out because it's your last chance to sit in the big chair. Otherwise it's back to the Lab ministry again.

Another veiled threat hiding behind 'advice'.

Chalerm seems to have a crystal ball... every time he predicts something, it happens... well especially when it comes to violence.

He fell down on his declaration of PTP election victory 30 minutes after the partial polls closed on Feb 2nd though.

Maybe he can only predict violent attacks. I wonder how he knows??

This pressure cooker has been on the same burner for over thirty years; this confrontation has been going on for over thirty years. Thaksin and Suthep are just the newest and perhaps worst symptoms seen so far. Traditionally, Thais only cook on one burner, and with a rice cooker, and that is why most of their food is fairly one-dimensional. The formula is Thai food cooked in one pan + rice = Thainess. I enjoy the aroma, don't misunderstand, and the flavors are wonderful.

All they have to do is turn off the gas and let the pot cool before it explodes. But neither the current chef, nor the fourteen families that own this restaurant, are willing to let anyone turn off the gas.

It's ok. Every human being and country has the right to screw things up as much as possible.

" If either decision are deemed unsatisfactory by the public, Mr. Chalerm has said that it might cause chaos. "

There he goes again - the real reason Thaksin wants Chalerm in front of the cameras - to tell people yet again what would happen if the decisions are " deemed unsatisfactory by the public ". Are we to assume that the whole Thai public will deem the rulings unsatisfactory ?

More to the point, Mr. Chalerm, what about the public that is unsatisfied with the rulings, but are prepared to accept them nonetheless because that is the constitutional process ? A few words to that effect in front of the cameras might momentarily convince people that you're doing what you're supposed to be doing as the head of CAPO - an institution that purports to support the process of law.

The only tension is the rhetorical one from Chalerm himself. The tension lies around the fact that alcohol sales have been asked to be reduced during the Songkran season. Nobody else is tense at this time (apart from her's and his truly)...

The song was 'Pink Cadillac' Chalms, not pink Bentley.... don't get ur knickers in a twist though.... you won't be shot dead soon. ;)

As if he's interested.. cheesy.gif
