Build a discipline like Germany,Japan and South Korea. He means stop being Thai

Ever since Generalissimo Luang Phibun Thailand has had:

The cult of personality

The love of uniforms

The over-the-top ultranationalism

The flag-worship

The fascist ideology

The racism

The aggressive mindset

And ALL of the above endorsed by state religion.

Were it not for Thais despising anything to do with the intellect,

and obsessively loving anything to do with frivolity, they would

would be a real menace!

No academics required.

There is no great mystery to be had here.

The solution is self evident.

Hold an election and respect the results.

The true riddle these clowns are trying to solve is "How can an electoral minority hijack power for themselves whilst maintaining a facade of freedom and democracy?"

The simple answer is they can't. Those days are over.

So give in, you've lost

What State religion?

The rest of you list is also ethnocentric BS - buts lets start with the question of "state religion"

The basis of your state is what?

Few people understand the true nature of this conflict. It is not one of "good" vs. "evil,"

or even better vs. worse. It is a gang war between two criminal syndicates over who will

control the turf and reap the profits. The entrenched power structure represent their

personal interests (those of their class). Thaksin is the point-man for the NWO to break

up their monopoly. Whoever wins, the people still lose.

As St. George Carlin said, (paraphrsed) "We are allowed to vote to promote the ILLUSION OF CHOICE.

We have no choice! We are OWNED! Our OWNERS discovered that giving us the illusion of choice

(the VOTE) makes us easier to control. If voting made any difference, we wouldn't be

allowed to do it."

Thailand has no OFFICIAL "state religion." It is a requirement that the king be Buddhist.

The monarch, in his capacity as head of state, performs/officiates at certain Buddhist rites. It is unlikely

that there is a single government office of any kind in Thailand which does not have a Buddhist altar prominently displayed. So, while Thailand has no official state religion, and its citizens enjoy complete

freedom of religion, Buddhism is the "de facto" state religion of Thailand.

The Thai sangha (community of monks) is controled by the Thai state. No monk will publicly say

anything which is not totally in support of, and in agreement with, the Thai state.

Dr Kasem sounds like he's in danger of believing the lie that Thailand ever had a golden past. Like people in every other poor country, the primary aspiration of most Thais is financial.

There appears to be no intellectual life and precious little historical knowledge in this place. Where are the philosophers, writers, scientists and artists? Sandwiched between the traditions of India and China, Thais have taken bits and pieces from both but have failed to do the one thing that actually generates ideas: to seek to create a unified system of thought.

The lese majeste laws have had a crippling effect on the whole intellectual landscape of this country. The people will never be able to think aloud until they break this chain.

The one thread of thought that may help Thais is Buddhism, but when I compare it to, say, Tibetan Buddhism, I feel it needs to freshen itself up for the modern problems that people face.

The irony is that Thais may well be perfectly suited to the coming corporate neo-feudalism as they have never intellectually gone beyond the medieval version.

Agreed, however there is nothing "coming" about the cn-f. It has already taken over most of the world, big flashy democracies included. In fact, the power in most societies is driven by whoever has the most money. I don't know how Germany, Korea and the like get off the hook.

There was a proposal put up in very recent years for Buddhism to be made the State religion, It was opposed by many Buddhist leaders and members of the laity - the proposal was put forward by PTP

Many Buddhist monks spoke up against it for a variety of reason - not the least of which was the Dept of Edu interfering in Teaching relating to Buddhism in State schools.

This is one of the reasons why some Monks are openly opposed to PTP - defending Buddhist teaching is not being political it is defending the Dhamma. It is also one of the reasons why some people are looking at PTP with a great deal of concern - it will cost them votes.

The relationship between the Shin Dynasty and a certain Buddhist sect which all teachers had to undergo training with that organisation is one of the issues that is not discussed here because it is not in interest range (understandably) of most members of TVF.

When it comes to this particular sect then I would agree with some relationship between "Buddhism" and uniforms. Google is your friend

Definition of an academic.

Someone who works with their mouth and never with their hands.

Just talking solves nothing.

Wow.

How do you think you were able to fly here, use a computer and post on the internet? Thank people who never worked with their hands. As if working with your brain isn't work in the 21st century. I'm really glad we had layabouts doing science, engineering, medicine, philosophy, history, art, music and social sciences, and not only "real people" doing "real work". So enough of this recurring nonsense that because someone's an academic, he has no credibility. Enough of those cheap shots at academics.

Blimey did you miss the point, by thousands of miles.

The point being made here is that Thailand is full of academics talking but nothing actually gets done, no action following thought.

Any by the way, planes, computers, the internet, medical breakthroughs, engineering, the industrial revolution etc,etc did not originate in Thailand to my knowledge.

Thailand isn't full of academics. It does however have a reasonable amounts of very good academics who could be considerable help. However, there are not the political parties. NGO's, processes or procedures to facilitate this type of change.

The previous poster replied to a post giving a definition for academics that wasn't qualified by any boundary. So although your statement regarding specific things that did not originate may be accurate it is still sophistry.

Thailand has academics, exactly how many there are I do not know. Why are you taking all the points in my post and the previous posts so literally? We are not writing legal papers. You seem to have missed the point again.

The point is there are a lot of academics and very well educated people in Thailand, fact, I know a few. However nothing effective seems to happen to tackle the big issues in this country, so lots of talk but no action. That's it, the entire point, don't over think it.

And who uses the word sophistry nowadays,, please,,
