Up and over doi suthep to huai tung thao by scooter

Featured Replies

Does the dirt road go all the way to the lake? starting at cmu up to doi suthep and then along the dirt tracks higher up...I turned back last time but want to see if it's possible to all the way thru to the lake on scooter

Yes it does, there is a few possible variants also.

It's possible on a scooter , in dry season. Take it slow though. I wouldn't recommend and automatic, take a step through, Honda Wave or equivalent.

Ok thanks....on route now. On my Pcx so will see how I go!

Wouldn't recommend taking a PCX .

PCX will be fine. I've toured most of the mountains of N. Thailand on a 110 cc "automatic". Have fun.

I wouldn't come down the back of Doi Suthep on a PCX, too heavy, and better to have gears to help with braking.

Fine going as far as the coffee shop and back, just not down the track to the lake.

Just arrived at the lake ... So can do on a Pcx, but I wouldn't recommend it either. Would be much more fun on mountain bike, quad or off road bike...

I did it about two months ago on a Honda Click . Brakes were a challenge to say the least . Was a bit scary because I wasn't sure where I would come out ..... Recommend bring plenty of water and a camera ..... If you get a flat tire the last picture will be relevant .....

This surely can not be the same route the mountain bikers use? Not on a PCX?

The last time I did that route down the mud tracks there was no way you could have done it in a bike with road tyres!

Interesting to know exactly what route you took?

Not on the tracks that go up and behind Doi Suthep! A PCX is only fine for road use.

Yes, there was a mountain bike tour on the same route.... If I was 2up, or it was wet then it would not be possible.

There was only really one route... Except A split around half way. I went right for 20mins before deciding to go back and take the left way. Go left...!

This was the exit...post-147778-13987303086878_thumb.jpg

That's funny I know where the split was , there was no sign either . I stopped there walked to a shack and asked a old woman which way .. She pointed left so that's the way I went .... Then it was still a few km before I saw anything that looked like I was headed out .... Really a good ride but you ll be tired when you get to the bottom .......
