Two men masquerading as policemen are approaching businesses looking for "donations" of THB 5-10K for an official looking magazine that they"re peddling. If anyone is approached they should try to obtain anything useful (mugshot/VRN/photo of car) to pass to the police or local media. The pair were active @ midday today in Lamai.

Thanks for the warning.

This seems to happen every 4/5 years here. The last time that I saw them I went inside to get my camera. I have not seen a truck reverse that quickly for a long time.

Should call the police straight away even if they are Thai maybe they assume if they dress up as police then they won't be called

If memory serves, these guys were driving around in a truck, last time they hit "town" a few years ago .... seeking out farangs ....

The "story" was to provide money for wounded ex service men..... I am sure it varies!.... Keep your money in your pocket....!

OK I did a forum search to try find where to ask this question! this topic is what came up...whistling.giftongue.png

I thought I had read some thing recently on the question I need answered ...

I sold a bike about four years ago, to some Thai friends, (yes got paid) but we never got around to doing the official transfer paper work ...

We went down to Dan Auto just to ask if they could do it ... answer was Yes.... but 1500 baht to do it .... That just seems outrageous ??? blink.png

Then because the bike is over 5 years old it needs the MOT test (we knew that) ...but all in all the quote was over 2400 baht...

All seems a tad bit high....w00t.gif

Any one have an idea of what the cost would be by going to Lipa Noi.... for both transfer and MOT ? wai2.gif

Do you get many foreigners dressing up as police and trying out scams?

Nothing like that, cost of MOT. 100/150 baht on a bike.

Transfer costs not much more.

Let me check my records, and ask my staff, and I will update tomorrow.

Probably extra. for the 4 years your " Thai friends " have not paid the yearly tax / insurance, whatever.

Thanks Gus! ...thumbsup.gif

I thought it had a bit of a "scamming whiff" to the price... so guess it fits the thread title!

The taxes have been paid, just due for this year!

I remember with my first bike I brought when I lived on KP, the local MOT wanted 4000 baht for transfer, .... they did not get it!
