Hi all. Just bought a Haier HSU-18CEK03T aircon .. decent tidy installation .. I heard it running before the install team left but it was on the highest fan setting .. after I reduced it to the lowest and realized that there was an annoying whine from the fan/motor on the inside unit .strangely the whining is noisiest on the lowest fan setting. I'm more familiar with Samsung and LG aircon which are quieter .. anyway we call the installation team back .. they have a listen and state "normal Haier more noisy than Samsung etc". Ummm ok I think .. not convinced but they say nothing they can do.

Anyway had it on for a while but whining is so fxxking irritating turned it off and back to fans ... in short any ideas.. do any of you have Haier aircon .. Im in a rental that's why I decided to save a few thousand on the aircon ... really. Really regretting it now!

any help appreciated.

Perhaps you can use the higher fan settings to overcome the noise that you do not like and adjust the swing to compensate if too much fan? I currently use that method to overcome the noise of neighbors water pump. sad.png

That's an option.. I'm just not sure the whining is normal. It's a really weird higher pitched sound .. gonna call Haier Tuesday see what they say.. would still be interested in anyone's input if they also own one. Thanks.

Sounds like lousy bearings like we had in first lower priced brand when then first started to sell here - went through three sets during the time we had unit and also cracked like pond ice every time the plastic case temp changed. Not all are created equal. There may be a hope that they will whine less with time - but then again maybe not. Sorry have never had any of those units so can not say what they should should like.

I've seen this brand.

But I prefer LG Samsung or better still mitsubushi heavy duty. Got one running for years no probs .

Sounds like haier should change there brand name to Hia. 555

According the the Haier website, it is just a noisy system:

http://www.haier.com/th/products/air_conditioner/split_ac/hsu-18cek03t-e-.shtml

They spec the indoor unit as being 43dB (+3/-4), better 18K BTU systems are typically < 30dB.

Apparently, each 10dB is about twice as loud to the human ear.

And yet in the display area it says 22db super quiet .. also it seems DB and DB (a) are different so could account for the difference .. anyway its not noisy as in fan noise its more the fan motor whining.

I hope it's a big chain store then - ask for a refund...... Take a photo of the display quietly first though, JIC you need some evidence.

Check the difference between DB and DB (a).. might explain it.. I really don't understand!

Yep - dB(A) rolls off the bottom end - so for all we know it could actually be making 80+ dB :P

Jokes aside, you'll find that all AC units are rated in dB(A) - no-one rates SPL non-weighted, or B/C rated.

Haier & Yorks make more racket then the Mits, Panasonic,Diakin & Toshiba etc.

I have some buddies that have Hatier & the York. They work well but make noise.

Beardog. Is the noise on low fan like a high pitched whining . I'm not bothered if the fan is a bit noisier.. it's the whining noise that's driving me nuts.. anyway hopefully an engineer will come tomorrow.

Ok.. the guy from Haier came out today .. it seems that the inside unit may have been knocked in transit and put the fan blade unit out of alignment .. he realigned it and all is well.. yes the fan is a little noisier than an equivalent top brand unit (but its also a little faster) when you put it on the "quiet " function it slows the fan further so making it quieter (probably the same as most other aircon) .. overall for 19,500 baht fully fitted for an 18,000btu aircon ..I'm now happy!

Hi Casualbiker

still happy with the Haier?

I'm interested in a 13,000BTU non inverter which seems cheap on a big discount at 9999bt.

Very easy to find only complaints when one looks on the internet but can't believe a big company doesn't generally make reasonable products.

I've seen almost unheard of brands last for donkeys' years.

They have a full backup service like parts? (here is Chiangmai)

Hi. Generally yes.. For the money its good. Still noisy when it turns off but it gets the room cold quickly and maintains it nicely. Would I buy another, YES but certainly not for a bedroom. Turn off is just to noisy. Parts backup, I presume yes.. No idea haven't needed any!

I've also seen the 13k btu on discount. TCL do one even cheaper @ about 9k fitted.

https://www.kaidee.com/product-108643259/?st=Tcl

All plus 2k fitting. But not on CM.

If you do get one. Let me know how it is. I might be getting one for the office.

Went to look at a Haier in real life today at Siam TV whilst i was there i noticed another "Cheapie" under the name Midea.

I thought it looked good and it had the temp and so on lit up in a small display on the wall unit.

The Haier had to have the vulgar Chinese taste of a bright silver stripe across it whereas the Midea was plain and simple which I like.

Anyway I thought what is this little hick outfit Midea.

It turns out they employ 135,000 people and turnover $25B a year not only that they have a policy of reinvestment of 3% of revenue in R and D.

I think i'm going to try one.

Anyone object?

At Siam .tv the Haier.....near 13000btu....is 13450 baht.

The Midea.....bit above 12000btu I notice not 13000.....is 12990.

This includes fitting if I read right and both have a 5 year guarantee on the compressor.

So if one bought the Haier from Lazada at 9999 and added 2000-2500 for fitting then Siams a1000 a 1500 dearer which I think I would pay for local after sales service etc.

Like the little LED thingy on the Midea though, but could do with the extra BTU.

I am already under sizing the unit as I think they're usually way oversized who needs 20-21 degrees freezing cold on the hottest week of the year ....or ever....and if a rare sweat came along there's such a thing as a fan.

I have seen the temp on green buses ar 20 degrees and its most uncomfortable it needs a jacket or blanket.

ps casual biker the page you kindly sent was all for 9000btu can u get up the 12-13000 I can't see how

Thanks

Here's the nice light uppy display on the Midea

post-120824-14468703718395_thumb.jpg

And the ugly silver stripe on the Haier....though nice to see the 4digit helpline sticker on the end

post-120824-14468704385347_thumb.jpg

Then oddly it seems on Lazada website it has a same spec with no stripe and 10500 bt instead of 9999

Questions to self:

Buy local for a tad more?

Buy Lazada and avoid the stripe?

Worry about Casualbiker's noisy switch off.?

Or get the nice Midea and lose a few BTU?

BTW it seems to be 5 years for the compressor and 3years on "parts" whatever exactly that means

i went for a foot massage on the way home.

I noticed the aircon was a Haier exactly looking like the ones without the stripe. Apparently two years old.

It was a wee bit loud but I noticed it was on full fan.

I started pressing the fan button on the remote to turn it down and nothing happened.

Not a good start.

Were there batteries in the remote.. Maybe the batteries were in another vibrating hand held device!

You missed an option:

Spend a little more and get a higher quality unit, that's not noisy and saves on electricity bills.

If used routinely, these cheap AC's are a false economy.
