Senate deputy speaker told to meet Thaksin for help

BANGKOK: -- An appointed senator on Tuesday proposed that Senate deputy speaker Surachai Liangboonlertchai meets with fugitive former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra and a privy councilor to seek their help in the search for a “way out” of the protracted political impasse.

Senator Wanchai Sornsiri made the proposal during an informal discussion in the parliament Tuesday afternoon. Thaksin, he said, could provide a solution to the conflict.

Surachai declined to comment on seeking help from a privy councilor but he said he would take into consideration the proposal that he meets with Thaksin.

A handful of appointed senators of the so-called Group of 40 Senators namely General Chuchart Sooksa-nguan, Mrs Troengjai Buranasompob and Tuang Inthachai debated in favour of the invocation of Article 7 of the Constitution to nominate an interim prime minister to resolve the conflict.

The meeting went into recess at about 3.40 p.m. It will resume at 6 p.m. when Democrat party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva will present his political roadmap to the senators.

He should be brought back here and thrown in jail where he belongs. Then things could certainly move forward without him interfering.

That's outrageous! To even consider asking for help or advice from a fugitive from justice, let alone the one who is trying to jerk Thailand's strings for his own avaricious ends, makes a mockery of even Thailand's murcky politics.

The mind boggles. The only way that from can even start to help is to do his time in the Bangkok Hilton and then swear upon pain of death to stay totally out of all form of politics.... like that's going to happen!

Legal status of most relevant office holders is dubious or at the very least contested.

Demonstrations leaders on both sides are either breaking terms of bail, or charged with a multitude of serious offenses.

Arrest warrants ignored by the demonstrators, not acted upon for months by police.

Judiciary failing to act in a manner convincing impartiality, independent agencies the same.

Government (or care-taker government) threats courts, independent agencies.

Center for Keeping Peace and Order doing anything but, issues controversial announcements.

A so called Democrat party and PDRC (too long but the Demo word is there too) block election, deny voting rights of citizens.

PDRC and UDD (yes, they use the DEMO word too) acting as anything but, vehement rhetoric.

Army chief fantasizes about upcoming retirement, decisively waits to see where the wind blows.

Police cannot get a handle on cases pertaining to over 20 dead, hundreds wounded during this round.

Meeting Thaksin fits right in there.

Edit - Obviously, couldn't list all the funnies, weirdness, and silly bits. Would probably require a separate work permit.

An utterly nightmarish idea. This entire conflict was sparked by an amnesty bill that was passed at 4 in the morning, for the benefit of one man in seemingly perpetual self-isolation in Dubai. That bill and that man have brought the country to a deep political crisis. It had underscored the divisions in a way that has not been seen for years. And this same man thinks he can solve the crisis he set in motion with his own selfish bill and own selfish agenda ? The arrogance is beyond measure, and one cannot think of any " solution " more likely to exacerbate the conflict than this. A closed door meeting that would naturally only take place abroad sends all the wrong signals, and should be not only rejected but laughed away as being some kind of cosmic joke.
