Tatsujin Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 How many of these "politicians" were Thaksin-affiliated? Hmm.. illegal land deals and a certain political party, that sounds so familiar.* Obviously, the military coup was necessary because of the large-scale corruption during the Thaksin regime because what other government in Thai history would have such large scale corruption. Oh, wait, Vatana Asavahame was a Minister during the Democrat Party led government of 1997-2000, not during Thaksins government. Vatana is also involved in a 20+ billion baht corruption case surrounding the Klong Dan wastewater treatment project a legal history of the Klong Dan case is here. Just after the coup, the Bangkok Post on 27 September 2006 reports: Great. So corruption happened all through Thai history. So, even more need for serious reforms, serious penalties and serious enforcement. No matter what color shirt you wear. Remove the statute of limitations completely for corruption. Lifetime bans on anyone caught. And repayment of ALL monies stolen + interest. Until the penalties are such that they actually DO deter people, this whole <deleted> country is going nowhere. 2
Ulic Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 All the politicians are corrupt at every level it would seem. It may be a drop in the bucket but they should all be investigated, put on trial and if found guilty there family assets confiscated and the guilty jailed. Forensic accountants should be in high demand by the anti corruption department. Bonuses based on money recovered. Whistle blower bonuses as well.
GentlemanJim Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I wonder when the investigators will be asking how a two bit actor and singer can buy/start an airline with his once poor wife?
plachon Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 i really can not understand how you ferangs can have any right to comment on the policies of this country, why do you not keep your comments to your own corupt and failed countries eg , britian and the united states, for god sake you do not run the world any more As a matter of fact, "ferangs" (I assume you mean "Westerners"?) have every right to comment and criticise this project and the political actors and policies related to it, as it was funded by an Asian Development Bank loan, which means that money from both the nations you mention, plus a whole load more, was used on this project. Yes, that's right, ordinary tax payers money was channeled through the ADB to fund the corrupt activities of Wattana Assanavahame and all his cronies in Samut Prakan and the PCD, and it is us, as well as the Thai people who lose out from this disastrous waste of money. So, perhaps you'd better do a little bit of checking before you tell others that they have no right to comment on their own money sliding into the pockets of corrupt politicians and civil servants in Thailand. The world is getting smaller and we are all interlinked these days, for better or worse.
