Every year the same. In my neck of the woods, March, April, May hot as h*ll.

As I gather Chiang Mai / Chiang Rai is only about 2 degrees cooler during this time of year compared to BKK for example?!

Was advised, to get into a "comfort-zone" as far as temperature is concerned, one would have to "head for the hills" (at lest 500 meters above sea level or more).

Also hearsay: In such remote and elevated mountain-villages, there is not the slightest infra-structure available that a Farang would call "essential". (Whatever that is.)

Plenty of Expats in the area, I am sure someone can enlighten me.

If not, and against my conviction I will have an Air-Con Unit installed come next year.

Thanks & Cheers.

Doi Mae Salong - about an hour above Chiang Rai - is much cooler than Chiang Mai and has good Chinese food. It is a beautiful area and there are lots of nature walks and hill tribe villages, if that appeals to you. It is not a common stop for Westerners though, so could get boring for some. I would bring a computer, if I was going to be there for more than a few days.

Sounds good. Would also be a change of scenery. If basic accommodations available, plus internet (surprise), I will definitely keep it on the radar.

Thanks for Info.

Cheers.

OP,

I know that you made an innocent typographical error. I do it all the time, but I DO have an answer for your question: the heaths of Britain! MUCH cooler, if a bit damp, generally !! And, at this time of year, becoming rather pleasant, I think.

Better airfare than an air conditioner ?

Good recommendation. Also , Doi Ankhan, and there are some upper elevation places nearer to Chiang Mai, if you wish.

Very interesting village to visit.

I had the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten, there.

Small place and I fancied one of those Chinese Pig 'Haunces'. Don't know real term for dish.

80% fat, 10% Skin, not too bad and 10% bone.

My mistake. Staff where decent and it hasn't put me off Chinese food, in fact Mae Jiang is looking good for lunch.

The Mai Salong Resort used to have good Chinese food - especially dishes with locally grown mushrooms - and they had a bunch of tasty snacks at the morning market that I would have for breakfast. That was back before they had a 7/11 though. The place might have changed a lot.
