buy new. cheap as chips. the wife just bought a brand new Carrier brand 12,900 BTU for one of her rental properties. 10,500 Baht including installation from Big C. they also had a Samsung also about 13,000 BTU 11,300 Baht including installation. had a few more gimmicks on it. they are clearing out older models. brand new in box - full warranty. they tell you in advance how many meters of material they provide free (copper tube, pvc, etc.) she had to pay an additional 350 Baht as they needed a little longer tubes.

buying used is hit or miss. we once bought a nice Mitsubishi used, that was very clean. within 6 months the swing motor stopped working, and within 1 year the bushings were bad. not worth buying used to save such little money. my 2 Satang.

Second hand NOT a good idea - for reasons mentioned here. An older unit WILL require more power; will require more (and sooner) maintenance. New is the ONLY way to go.

I really don't know. I have seen the units at Siam and Robertson and am never sure if they include the price for the outside unit. Every once in a while I get to thinking of getting a new one as the one I have is at least 10 years old.

The prices seem cheap to me for both the inside unit and out side unit but also expensive for just the inside unit.

The "outside unit" as you call it is called the compressor. They are always sold together as an "air conditioner". The only time I have ever seen individual components sold is at Amorn when once a year or so they sell items damaged in trucking or sell off orphaned pieces when other pieces of the set have gone missing. And even then, their prices are not very good.

What is Robertson? Sounds very Western for Thailand.

Siam advertised prices are for the complete unit (inside and outside) with free installation (standard pipes and gas included).

The only extra charge is for the outside floor or wall mount, usually about 300bht.

Well said and we have done the same in the past, similar prices.

Also worth considering one of the inverter models, nowadays just a little more expensive but big electricity savings. All 8 units in our new house are LG Inverter, 2.5 years and never had any problems ever with any of the units, monthly bill not too bad.

Bought from Neon Panich just up from Airport Plaza, expert and professional installation crew, all well planned and they kept us informed day by day what was happening, very flexible if inconvenient etc., great price.

It's a large quality department store found in major Thai cities. Parent company is Singapore based.

Thanks for the information I guess I should have said Robinson. Don't pay much attention to the name when I am in the Mall.

I was at siam just a month ago, and the installation charge is as follows

Automatically included is 4m of copper pipework and 15m of electrical cable.

For a ground mounted compressor the charge is 500bt and for a wall mounted compressor the charge is 800bt.

That's siam charges, they are pinned up but I needed a translation.

Pretty fair imho

I had an LG installed by Siam TV on Saturday, 500B for the wall mounr bracket, other charges as listed by eyecatcher, they did also, on installation, offer some extras to make the piping outside look neater but it was 1000B and I think I could do a better job myself.

With the latest machines offering inverters, humidity control, the latest filters etc, I'd recommend the OP just buys new. Got two years of free servicing/cleaning as well.
