BANGKOK: -- One villager was killed and seven officials were injured in four bomb explosions in Narathiwat province on Monday.

The unidentified villager who was riding a motorcycle was killed instantly when he passed through a spot in Tambon Chang Phuek, Chanae district, when suspected insurgents detonated a roadside bomb with an intention to kill or maim a security force unit.

Shortly before that, a bomb went off damaging a car of the Anothai task force. No one was injured however.

In Cho Airong district, six defence volunteers, riding in three motorcycles on their way back from protecting teachers in Ban Koke, were slightly injured when a five-kg roadside bomb was detonated by suspected insurgents with a cellphone.

Earlier, a member of a para military ranger unit was injured by a bomb explosion as the unit was on a foot patrol mission in Tambon Chang Phuek.
