Where to buy Brazil nuts in Pattaya?

Featured Replies

I've decided eating ONE Brazil nut a day is a delicious and healthy thing to do.

The problem is I can't find any for sale in Pattaya.

I noticed there is an empty space at Friendship saying they have/had them there, but I've actually never noticed them ever having them. But I wasn't looking before.

I've been around the markets circuit ... and nada.

Any clues about where to buy them LOCALLY?

Preferably out of shell, of course.

Another question ... I know they are called Brazil nuts but I found a site suggesting they actually GROW them in Thailand. Of course I'm not interested in a bulk order, but I am curious, are they really grown in Thailand?

the right amount is 4 a month, but you have to eat all 4 at the same time: https://nutritionfacts.org/2016/03/24/four-brazil-nuts-once-a-month/

I never go there ... but can someone confirm that they ACTUALLY stock them there?

Thanks.

They had a good selection when I was looking for pine nuts, what I wanted to make my pesto, but they did not have, from memory they seemed to have every other nut apart from the pine, I actually bought walnuts to make the pesto with, very nice indeed.

What process of reason caused you to arrive at the decision to eat just one Brazil nut a day ? crazy.gif Are you sure you gave it due forethought and deliberation ?

Nutrition research. But they have an unusually high amount of saturated fat (and calories) than other nuts so it's not good to eat many of them. More seriously, these particular nuts are an amazing source of SELENIUM but too much SELENIUM is quite harmful, so really only one or two a day is advisable. In other words one nut covers you for SELENIUM ... it's that concentrated in these nuts.

I have some now but won't last.

I am currently eating FIVE almonds a day ... easy to source those.

Eating (in reasonable portions) nuts including peanuts is associated with both prevention of obesity and assisting in weight loss. You see nuts even though caloric provide good nutrition and FILL YOU UP. It's part of the "healthy fats" thing that in my view is more than a fad. It's got scientific evidence behind it.

Nice reply JT

Thing is with me, after I have trained, and have eaten copious amount of protein, if I wake up on the night, I will snack on lots of these, so tend not to keep them in the house.

Sorry this won't be of much assistance (maybe Villa?), but do you remember the great line from the 2003 movie, The Rundown?

"Oh, wow! Brazil nuts! I love Brazil nuts!" Answer: "Uh-huh."

"So, what do you call them here?" Answer: "Well, we're in Brazil... ...so we just call them nuts."

In the U.S. there is an archaic slang name for Brazil nuts. It's racist so I won't say it.

I visited parts of South America in my youth and I can say I tried some very tasty Brazilian nuts in my time there.

As for sourcing in pattaya? I have no idea!

Was in Makro this afternoon and had a look in the nuts section - did not see brazil nuts. Last time I saw them, years ago, you had to win the lottery to afford them.

Hopefully, two per serving, not one.unsure.png

Yes they're expensive. But one a day I think I can handle it. It's encouraging that Friendship at least has a SPACE for them. Might be the best hope. Nothing at Villa. Haven't checked Foodland yet.

.....ok note stock suitcase with 2 kilo of nuts, and supply JT for a year :)

Cashew nuts are thick as cockroaches in these parts. I want my BRAZIL nuts!crying.gif

I snack on almonds and raisins (bulk packs in Macro). Together with fruit it keeps me away from chocolate biscuits and cakes when its coffee or tea time.

I miss my mixed whole nuts living in Thailand. Now you've got me interested in the selenium context JT - I used to take selenium tablets but I junked those along with all my other vitamins when they came out with the news that vitamins and supplements were a waste of space pricey con. I'll certainly be buying some brazils at Tesco (unfortunately that means waiting for a Tesco UK visit - another thing to add to the self-import list).

Brazil "nuts" are not nuts (apparently) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4Ktn7YXoJQ This link will also explain why certain nuts rise to the top of your muesli.

Peanuts also are not nuts (legumes).

I have seen Brazil "nuts" in Foodland. In the bakery goods section, near the flour, cake mixes, etc. Small packs and V V Expensive.

Thanks for that. That is so cool!

I did knows peanuts aren't nuts, but news about the Brazils.

They usually have them packed in clear plastic bags in the Central Food Hall. If my memory serves me, you'll find them in the bakery section, just to the left of the place where they package your bread and cakes up for you. Somewhere around there anyway, also bags of macadamias, pine kernels and other goodies. Not cheap though.

JT's correct ... what I read was 3 or 4 a day can be beneficial for your health.

Brazil Nuts do have some recognised qualities.

Brazil nuts are chock full of selenium, an antioxidant mineral that helps prevent chromosomal damage in eggs and sperm, a common cause of early pregnancy miscarriage (and birth defects). In men, selenium serves as yet another nutrient needed for healthy sperm formation; studies have found that low selenium levels may be linked with low sperm counts.

Here

So, when MissFarmGirl was pregnant I asked her to try and find some in Thailand.

She never was able to, So I had to bring them over from the West.

Normally I buy brazil nuts at Frendship but if they're out of stock you can order 500 g bags from a company in Phuket. I think its free shipping with orders over 1000 baht. They import them from S-America.

Prices are about the same as Friendship.

I concur with Guderian!! That's where they are in Central Food Hall, B.R. - when they've got them in stock, of course!! Good range of other nuts there as well!

Often described as a sandwich?

Indeed these wonderful nuts are for sale at Central Pattaya Beach in a nut section in the baked goods area. I wasn't aware of that nut section before. I know of their other nut section in the main aisles which doesn't have Brazils. The cost is 800 per kilo and happily available in different sizes for the same rate. It works out to about 3 baht per scrumptious nut. As I only require the ONE nut per day, I am a happy nut eater.

Friendship hasn't restocked their Brazils and I no longer see a blank section for them.

Speaking of wanted items ... any leads on fresh JALAPENO peppers?

The Royal Projects market used to carry them but not lately.
