looks like success already but is this place only catering to the older generation can't see anyone under 30????

Wouldn't this be somewhat indicative of a lack of motivation on the part of the TVF under 30 crowd in attending? That said, I suspect the demographics of the TVF skews toward the "older generation" and that goes a long way toward explaining the demographics of the attendees.

I wonder how the arrangement works between TV and New Wave ?

Guess can only speculate , or does anyone with authority want to explain ?

Why do you want to Know ?

It's a place to meet up and meet members so I will definitely go when back in BKK.

I WISH the bar every success.

Because I too have had the pleasure of enjoying the HuaHin lounge and also called in for the opening party in BKK.

I have discussed this with many buisiness friends in Phuket and they are considering approaching George.

But I would only connect the parties together if the buisiness model was transparent and that means it could be discussed here could it not ?

Thanks for asking though

This isn't a thread to discuss whatever business arrangements are in place regarding the Thai Visa Lounge.

Lets keep it to a discussion of the opening nights events!

Are they still charging 170 baht for a pint of Singha?

I came by this bar, I think on an early Saturday night a week before the Thaivisa opening party. Paid 170 or 175 baht, can't remember which, but even for lower Sukhumvit, that blew my mind.

The food prices were pretty over the top too, think I paid 240 baht for whatever dish I ordered, it tasted OK, I guess what I'm saying is, I rather like this bar, but you can get way, way better value for money elsewhere in the area, and it's certainly not special enough to justify 170 for a Singha draft.

Great idea.

Scarfie mentioned some 'Professional Photos' ... are they any closer to being displayed?

Maybe some of the Farier Sex could be included in that ... rolleyes.gif

ThaiVisa Insurance (RIP)

ThaiVisa Car Rentals

ThaiVisa Hotel Booking

ThaiVisa Travel

(probably more but it's early)

& now ThaiVisa Lounge ... makes me think of this:

Serious question ...

I've got a mate in Bangkok and wants to watch the State of Origin game on this afternoon.

Does your Pub have this Channel?

Rugby League from Australia.

Mate, thanks for that.

I'm a bit dissapointed that the boys didn't offer a reply to my question.

That customer is lost now.

Popped in. Nice venue, some cracking beer girls but how I wish everybody had been made to wear a badge with their user-name on...

Good post gazmat. I will drop in soon, but being a non drinker, is there a western food menu? anybody want to give their opinion on it?

Why not have a whiteboard on the wall for members to write their username on, but only if they want to.

The 10th anniversary Thaivisa party in Bangkok had name tags... made a big difference..

I'm agreeing with David48 here, if all the THAI VISA Lonuge has to offer is the same as every other bar in BKK, there is no incentive to frequent it. Sure drop in for a beer check it out, say you've 'been there, done that!' but if any business has no "hook" then whats the purpose. By naming itself after a popular forum now with some 70,000 members, you'd think it already had that hook, but chose to just be another "well established pool bar", disappointing for many. Its like when you drive along the highway and you see stall after stall selling the same product, surely you would think one of them might do something different, but nope, they just keep selling the same thing next to hundred of others doing the same. Admittedly, 70,000 members drop in for even 1 beer and its a goer, but c"mon!

Oz

Need to keep in mind that not only 70,000 members but many multiples of that in guests who visit the forum who are potentials for the new lounge wanting to perhaps meet up on common ground.

Good food , drinks selection, music and service in a pleasant environment will keep them coming back for more. Plenty, no in fact most, bars in lower Suk can't get that right.

As David alluded to there is a target group....we could only speculate as to what that might be at this point....but I'll be along soon to get my own idea.

Good Point . New Wave is nice..(particularly upstairs) but what are some of few other bars that 'do' get it right?.. they should collaborate.

Have been to the lounge opening day ,week after with my wife , and a few days ago. There were under 30's there my 3rd trip BUT in all 3 visits have talked to no one. I don't know any Thai visa memebers by site (well just 1 ) and excpt for opening day when we got checked off when coming in don't know any moderators to say hello either. Maybe I will have to ask one of the servers next trip is there a moderator owner around. Everyone seemed to stay in their own little group. Heard plenty of Brits, Aussies but looked like I was Lone American.

PS; I you were there opening day I was the guy with grey Boston Red Sox World Champions ( Baseball) T-shirt and hat onsmile.png

Is there a connection here perhaps, I dont know..? Only jesting.

Perhaps the groups you saw were just normal, non-ThaiVisa customers?

I wouldn't bother asking the staff about TV moderators, that will be a waste of breath. It would be like someone asking them who Tony125 or Zeegator were, the staff work for New Wave, not ThaiVisa.

I would have thought, as has been pointed out by a couple of posters already, that the bar would be particularly oriented towards TV members. However, if you walk in and have no idea whether any of the other customers have anything to do with TV or not, then it's just another bar in Nana.

I noted in an early post that TV members got a 15% discount. Was that just the opening night, or is it a continuing theme? Perhaps to qualify for the discount, TV members should be required to wear a TV badge with their username on it, which would facilitate a bit more interaction between the members who pitch up there? Otherwise, what's the point of it being a 'Thai Visa' bar? I'm sure there will be a lot of members who don't live in Bangkok who would pop in when they pass through if they knew they could identify other TV members. But not many people will wander round the punters asking "Are you a member of TV? What's your username?", however much they might want to know.

To answer the discount question...you can get a Thai Visa member's discount any time..

I'm certainly not going to relax in a bar waiting for people I don't know to approach and ask for my autograph.

That's what premiere's are for!

I'm not old enough or been here long enough to remember the Mexican Dwarfs on Sol 7 but harrry on post #117 kindly added their photo to the memory of how it used to be - what was it 30 to 35 years ago - sometime after the 1971 coup?

Well they weren't on soi 7. They were the "greeters" in front of the Nipa Hut which was located on Sukhumvit Road between soi 16 and 12? That stretch of Sukhumvit has changed so don't remember exactly where but I think it was actually two Mexican restaurants side by side. This would be around the early '70s.

You'd be surprised at how many do just that.

Thai Visa Moderators are slightly easier to spot.

Shy and easy to startle, they are often seen in small groups grazing quietly - with one or more of the group keeping an alert eye open for signs of danger.

They can also be distinguished from other bar dwellers by their distinctive eyewear...

Heh! Well that's ok then - at least I'll be able to spot the mods when I pop in for a beer! tongue.png
