Meteorological Department warns of severe weather in Southern Thailand

PHATTHALUNG, 9 July 2014 (NNT) – The Meteorological Department has warned locals to prepare for strong winds as well as heavy rain in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand.

Locals are being advised to brace themselves for heavy rains and storms for another couple of days, while houses in many provinces have already been devastated by storms.

In Kong Ra Subdistrict, Phatthalung province, about 100 houses have been damaged after being hit by storms. Trees have fallen and damaged three monk houses as well as a nursery center. Phatthalung officials have been dispatched to fix the damages in the reported area.

Thai Meteorological Department has given a weather advisory to beware of strong winds and high waves prevailing over the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Local fishermen have been urged to keep their boats ashore until July 11 due to approaching storms.

Strong winds and very heavy cloud cover in NST before noon Wednesday but nothing more up to now, 10 pm.

I live in Hat Yai and all has been quiet even though Patthalung is just north of here.
