DIY Wardrobes

Featured Replies

Hey guys, in our new build we want to get the builders to make us built in wardrobes

these wardrobes will go in one corner of each of the bedrooms, and will be built with brick and concrete as in the drawing

post-141152-0-25151900-1405478588_thumb.

we have seen some good tracks and wheel sets for sliding doors at Thai Watsadu, plus we will find ourselves some good wooden doors of 80cm * 200cm (we have seen ready made sliding doors at index, but at 6000B up just for one door and the tracks are expensive, and we need 12 doors for 4 wardrobes, it is too expensive)

we will line the inside of the cupboard with ply wood, make some wooden shelves, install a pole to hang clothes, and put some drawers in for the mrs' not-so-smalls

our builders are competent, but i would like to design it for them, just so we get exactly what we had in mind

has anyone any experience of building wardrobes in this manner? any tips or advice to share please?

I designed and built the house that I am living in myself. Tha bedrooms have walkin clostets and there are hangers and drawers which I made and installed in each closet. The closets are big enough to use as changing rooms. I also made a large walkin pantry, a small "budda room" and a storage room off of the carport. You should have seen the look on the face of the Thai farm laborers that I used when I built the house with all of the small rooms, Since they are walkin closets I used normal wooden frames and hinged hollow core doors. This type of design is very common in the US.
