People interested in ex-KMT/Chinese Nationalists?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone

I'm an expat living in Taiwan; my in-laws and the community in which they lived here in Taiwan are descendants of the KMT forces that once resided in Burma/Thailand, but were subsequently evacuated to Taiwan.

I've been appointed (perhaps questionably!) as the co-director of a new museum that is being constructed to tell the story of the "lost people" and how they came to be in Taiwan.  As part of that we are looking back to Burma and Thailand to gather stories, and potentially documents/items, that can help tell that story.

I'm planning a trip to Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai and Mae Salong to undertake this "curation exercise".  I have a lot of good contacts via my in-laws, but I'm keen to hear from people still in the area who might be able to tell me more - are there any expats in the area with an interest in this topic?

Amongst other things, I'm keen to know are there any good examples of former KMT villages in the area? Any soldiers or officers who served in the Chinese Irregular Forces? Any good tourist resources in the area, such as museums or events, that cater to this particular topic?

From one expat to another, I thank anyone who can provide me with any assistance!

There is a KMT memorial and museum in Mae Salong, and most people there speaks chinese. Spend some time there and I am sure you will come up with most of the things you need.
