Thai - Cambodia Conflict Business Tycoon to Donate Mine-Clearing Robot to Army
Picture courtesy of Amarin A prominent Thai entrepreneur has announced plans to donate a state-of-the-art remote-controlled mine-clearing robot to the Royal Thai Army in a move aimed at improving safety along the country’s border regions. Worawat Narknawdee, also known as “Acme,” lead singer of the band DoubleDeep and founder of the cryptocurrency ACT (ACET), revealed via his Facebook page that he will partner with his community of over 100,000 ACT Warriors to acquire and donate a DOK-ING MV-4 Remote Controlled Mine Clearance System from Croatia. The system, valued at more than 100 million baht, will be deployed to remove unexploded ordnance in areas near the Thailand–Cambodia border. Speaking about the initiative, Mr Narknawdee emphasised that the donation is not intended for military aggression but to prevent casualties from leftover explosives. “This robot can operate at speeds of 3–5 km/h, is controllable from up to 1.5 km away, and is built to withstand blasts and harsh environmental conditions. Its design is suitable for Thai terrain, allowing continuous operations in high-risk areas and protecting the lives of front-line personnel,” he said. Mr Narknawdee acknowledged the complexity of acquiring the system, including legal import procedures, coordination with the Thai military and certification that the robot will be used strictly for military safety operations rather than commercial purposes. The entrepreneur, a leading figure in Asia’s cryptocurrency scene with holdings exceeding 11,000 Bitcoin, has previously made headlines for philanthropic projects, including organising a large-scale blood donation drive and contributing to the Thai Red Cross. “This donation represents a significant step by civil society to support the Thai military while safeguarding human life,” Mr Narknawdee added. “Thailand deserves this technology, not for war, but to prevent loss of life and restore safety to affected areas. This project will not solicit public funds and we caution against anyone falsely claiming to collect donations in its name.” The DOK-ING MV-4 system is expected to have a lifespan of 10–15 years and is stated to be suited to operate effectively in Thailand’s diverse and challenging landscapes. Report Thai Hospitals in Hot Water Over Fake Health Certificates
Picture courtesy of Department of Mental Health Allegations against some private hospitals for issuing fake health certificates to migrant workers have put Thailand's healthcare credibility in jeopardy. Deputy Public Health Minister Chaichana Dechdecho has accused a few rogue institutions of issuing these certificates without the necessary health checks. Authorities are currently conducting investigations into the methods employed by these hospitals. If Mr Chaichana finds them guilty, the consequences will be grave. "Licences will be pulled, both from the hospitals and the doctors involved," he asserted with a zero-tolerance stance on these misdemeanours. A core part of the problem lies in the hospitals allegedly bypassing crucial tests, such as blood tests and X-rays, leading to fears of unchecked infectious diseases. This breaches medical ethics and poses a threat to public health, stirring a potential health crisis on Thai soil, reported the Bangkok Post. The investigation's net also extends to recruitment companies running mobile health checks. These players have been ordered to cooperate under the microscope of the Department of Disease Control and local hospitals. Stern action awaits those guilty, with Mr Chaichana vowing personal oversight on the matter. The allegations come amid a backdrop of rising health standards within Thailand and could threaten its reputation if not addressed promptly. The concerned authorities are advocating a thorough clean-up to maintain trust and safety for Thai citizens. Adapted by ASEAN Now from Bangkok Post 2025-08-20 -

Wife want to gift condo to me (how much to wire from abroad?)
I agree with this. When I divorced my Thai wife, I had to transfer from overseas, the equivalent of 50% of the asessed value of the condo to get the ex-wife's name removed from the chanote (and therefore me be the 100% owner). -

10 US States May Join Canada?
Alex Garland skips (wisely) the hows and whys in his provocative movie, but in the opening scene, acknowledges such a move would be seen as illegal. I thought it was an interesting film, with individual vignettes quite plausible. But I don't think there is a single modern country where seccession does not require some sort of support from the legislature or executive. Scotland got into trouble when it tried to hold an independant referendum without the agreement of Westminster. Then the Catalan declaration of independance which lead to seperatists going on the run in France. Yugoslavia infamously and bloodily fell apart in a way that reminded us that when it comes to sheer brutality to one another, kith and kin, we Europeans are a master at it, give the right circumstances. And now, we are seeing in in Ukraine, this time based around a fake Russian ethnicity. Most secessions fail, usually after conflict and the most bloody fraticide. Some succeed after conflict and the most bloody conflict. The American Declaration of Independance was an Act of Treason, the conspirators of which deserved to suffer the death of a traitor. So would have been the history if things had gone differently. The legality of that treasonous act made little difference in the eventual outcome, even though the so-called Patriots were only ever a minority of the population of the 13 colonies (no more than 40%. Hardcore Loyalists were 20%, the rest I would characterise as people who wanted to obey the law, like most of us today). In that sense, the later American Civil War remains an open sore; the seccession was brutally put down, and to this day, the South remains economically backward. in someways bearing the Mark of Cain as punishment on successive generations for daring to have independant thought (that's one characterisation). The Law matters little as to whether Secession succeeds. That depends on the Will, either the Will to stick to your principles, or the Will to kill your family. The British lacked the latter. Later on, the Americans seemed pretty happy to do the latter. If a State was to secede, Congress or any other body, can't stop it trying. -
