BANGKOK: -- High society figure Kritaya Lamsam, an executive at Muang Thai Insurance, was shot dead by her Swiss husband at their Bangkok home on Friday evening, police said yesterday.

Police Region Five commander Maj-General Suebsak Pansuri said it appeared Redo Kastellassi, 55, killed the 48-year-old before turning the gun on himself.

Kritaya's body was found in a bedroom and her husband's body was found in a bathroom on the second floor of the Lamsam family's six-floor luxury condominium on Narathiwat Ratchanakarin Road, Sathorn.

The couple had lived there with members of the Lamsam family.

Suebsak said Kritaya was shot in the head.

He said an 11mm gun was found in the bathroom and a 9mm gun, a Magnum gun and seven cartridges were also discovered.

Police interviewed Kritaya's relatives and a maid who lived with the couple and believed Kastellassi killed his wife while she was packing a bag to leave after they argued.

He had been treated for neurosis and was taking medication, Suebsak said.

Suebsak said the maid had revealed that before the incident the couple had gone cycling together and returned to have dinner at 6pm.

He said the maid was ironing clothes in another room when she heard several gunshots at around 8pm, prompting her to alert Kritaya's relatives to call police.

A source said Kritaya's relatives said the guns found in the condominium belonged to Kritaya, who was a keen shooter.

Her family had warned her against keeping the guns at home for fear of something like this happening due to Kastellassi being mentally unstable.

I'm a former career US Marine, and when I married, I took my wife, all 152cm and 40kilo of her, to the range on base and taught her to shoot, and how not to be afraid of guns. A couple of years later we were living off base and I had to leave for a week of advanced training. The night before I was due to return, two men broke into our house where my wife and 6 month old son were alone.

My wife calmly took her .380 and waited for them to come into the bedroom. When they did she shot one through the groin, effectively severing his penis, and shot the other in the knee cap, which totally shattered it, then calmly called the cops. It turns out that both of them men had long rap sheet, which included rape and robbery, which neither one will ever be able to do again.

THAT is just one of the reasons why an "honest person" needs a handgun in his house.

And Yes, I am definitely advocate for well trained gun owners for self protection.

People with money are generally happier than people without money. Money doesn't buy happiness but it makes a huge difference to your life. This guy apparently had mental problems, and money isn't a cure for that.

There is no reason for anyone to own a gun. Private ownership should be illegal. This tragedy would most likely have been averted. Ban them.

Most people killed by guns are innocent civilians killed by government actions. You'd save more lives if you banned governments from owning guns. And what do you do when your governments comes for you with guns? Are you saying that innocent citizens shouldn't be allowed to defend themselves? If guns are to be banned, then they should be banned for everyone, including governments. If governments didn't own so many guns and other weapons there'd be millions more innocent people alive right now.
