Why Was The Traffic So Bad Over The Weekend?

Featured Replies

:o Friday night I left Sathorn and took three hours to travel just 6km. In the end I booked into a hotel as I knew I probably wouldn't reach our end until around midnight. Saturday morning was fine, Saturday afternoon and evening a disaster again and yesterday the same. I know that it was pay weekend and it had been raining, but this is the worst I have seen traffic since we moved here. :D

Saturday was National Scout Day and the Crown Prince attended a ceremony in celebration at the National Stadium (I think it was there anyway!)

Sunday was Race Day at the RBSC which may also have accounted for the traffic since, as you point out, it was also pay weekend!

No point getting annoyed about it though, just one of the problems one has to accept living in Thailand - or at least in Bangkok!

hehe... that sounds like a good excuse to have night away from the family on the town......

I was told traffic was bad on Friday because there was a 'perfect storm' of it being Friday (the worst evening of the week for traffic), it was pay day for a lot of people (end of the month), it was raining and the world cup was on!!

I have a vantage point over sathorn road and every night I look out and say "thank god" as I see the endless line of stopped white car lights on one side and the endless line of stopped red car lights on the other. There is just no way I would put up with that so if it weren't for the sky train I wouldn't be in bangkok. When there is gridlock due to rain, rush hour, or motorcade below you just jet right over the top for 30 baht.

Traffic is always bad on any payday weekend. I have also observed Valentine's day evening traffic to be very bad every year.

when is the traffic good please tell me. Everytime i go out its a nightmare to go anywhere most of the time plus those policemen that dont know left from right dont help ahahahahaha

Pay day, Friday evening, rain, when the schools go back, when ever there is a big ceremony all good times to avoid driving in Bangkok

Talk about frustration! Last Friday night, I had to stop my motorbike for THREE FULL MINUTES while a water buffalo relieved himself in the middle of the road. Finally, the farmer then waved me on. Exasperating! :o

:D Very funny. The reason I didn't take the skytrain was two children, one of whom was asleep and I wouldn't have been able to carry her up all the stairs. so, I didn't reallyhave a relaxing time in the hotel at all. :o
