I'm looking for some 'cheap charlie' 9 hole golf courses here in CM.  I golf but I suck -- I'm real duffer.

Any recommendations on courses and approximate green fees.  Also need a driving range.  I'm going out for exercise and fun.  Not competition with myself or anyone else.

So he has to drive to Chiang Rai just to play 9 holes?

Handy tip that one.

It's so cheap it's probably worth moving up there, if you want to play everyday, and is a lot better tip than the one you gave.  You do seem to know a lot about Ladyboys and bars designed for grouchy old men.  Maybe you could lead a new Forum section:  Grouchy, uneducated, immobile, and old.......

I don't mean to highjack this thread, and have no information to share regarding 9 hole golf courses in Chiang Mai, but I do have a related question:

Since this is the Chiang Mai subforum, is there anyone who can tell me (to the nearest satang, if possible...) the current price of eggs in Chiang Rai Province?

Also, for any of you golfers who are making the daily 370 km commute to Chiang Rai in order to get your half round in.... would you mind checking on the availability of any local "beer buffets"? I'm particularly interested in the temperature (celsius or fahrenheit) of the storage facilities provided, and of course I'd need to know the exact dates that the beverages on offer were bottled.

      Thanks in advance!

Great idea. Be an even bigger cock than in the last post.

Way to go.

To the OP:

Can't find cheaper than this, but Bt60 for a midweek rate seems remarkably cheap!

Maybe call them first to check.

I'm too fit to be allowed to play golf, but from the fat lads I know that do, I hear that Star Dome and the Hang Dong golf courses are where the cheap Charlie's go for a quick 9 holes. I remember some fat gofers pointing out how much exercise is involved in playing a round of golf and how good it is for general well-being, but later in the evening when somebody suggested a round at a particular course, the reply was "I'm not playing there, they don't have buggies"!!!!

Sand Creek THB260 18 holes

Hang Dong THB340 18 holes

Sansai THB 320? 18 holes

Gymkhana THB 350 18 holes

Stardome THB 1200 18 holes

All the above 9 hole golf courses. The cost for 9 holes at most of them is around 60% of the 18 hole price.

Paid THB250 for 18 holes at the (New) SanSai course last week. Has a driving range too. The old San Sai Sai course AKA, Golf Avenue is now gone.

Gymkhana - incorrect, 9 hole price I think?

Both StarDome (SW corner of moat) and Lanna (north 3km on Chang Puek Rd.) on local bus/redtaxi routes so cheap and easy to access. Also both have large driving range (mats only)  and practice putting//chipping greens. During week each about 1K Baht (Lanna 800 )per 18 plus you gotta add caddy tip, minimum 250 B. Lanna has 27 holes and is the most scenic/interesting.  Hang Dong good value but transportation costs can be high.

If you follow the chiang rai advice, can you pick me up some cashews in Mae Sai..,not sure if you would drive or fly economy...

Go with the posters who listed the 9-hole courses in CM..they seem to be golfers and know the lay of the land...

If you are a duffer the 9 hole courses vary greatly in difficulty....stardome is a difficult course with narrow fairways with many water hazards...probably sansai and sand creek easiest for beginners...racetrack course at lanna prettiest scenery but an advanced beginning course...

Can you play without a caddy at the new SanSai course?

When you say Lanna is scenic I take it you are referring to the pack of dogs shagging on the first tee? It's cheap, but it's rather pish

Yes you can play w/o caddy at sansai...at lanna there are actually three hole ones acc to layout..I will vouch for the poster who says it is scenic esp the racetrack 9 as it has sweeping views..less so for the other 18 due to mature trees...obviously the poster meant the view and not the holes themselves...dogs aren't allow at lanna golf course only at HTT reservoir - the unofficial dog park of CM...

Has anyone played Sand Creek? That seems remarkably cheap.

Many times. THB260 maybe 280 now for 18 holes including caddy fee.

Short, but not exactly a beginners course, lots of trees and water.

And it's in good nick? Well maintained?

I find a lot of the cheaper courses in Thailand often have sandbars for greens, etc.

Very acceptable for the price.

Took a couple of guests there 2 months ago and they were delighted with the whole experience.
