Ignorance at Tesco Lous Bang Bo

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

Hi we shop regularly at Tesco Lotus Bang Bo it a small outlet (not express) but it carries some of the things we like.

This Saturday called in to buy some things on entery i went straight to the toilets on the way passed the back of the check outs i was greeted by the security guard saying look at this fat pig (meaning me 150kgs) he spoke in Thai i said nothing then on me return he wasa insulting me wife saying she was ugly etc (my wife has one eye she lost the other in an accident many years ago)

His mistake was i have been in Thailand 30yrs and speak Thai i asked the information counter staff to see the manager they point blank refused.

The guard now was telling my wife he was sorry because he did not think we Farang could understand what he was saying.

Now try to complain no contact number on the main website plenty of BS about how they value the customers but complain nothing any where

Last time at that Branh or any other

Do complain, don't let them get away with this sort of abuse, it's far too common.

Good luck with the compliant - bet you get stone walled but it would be good to hear what sort of a reply you get.

Do complain. Please let the forum know what happens.

The guard was uncouth. However...

Allowing the company to just fire him and washing their hands of the matter would be to miss the chance to use the incident to make an actual difference. I suggest you insist that instead of firing him, the company should institute some kind of basic sensitivity training.

I realize that the chances of this happening are slim, but I'm an idealist. :)

To improve the chance of *some* success, write to the British headquarters and threaten to write to a British newspaper.

I know some people will respond by saying that I'm a hopeless idealist. Don't. I've already preempted you.

Actually the guard seems to have lost face and asked forgiveness from his wife - yes it was wrong but suspect at least one guard now has a new attitude - which may be better than any replacement.  If making complaint is required would limit it to refusal of staff to allow speaking to management. .

He asked forgiveness because he was sorry the OP understood him; NOT because he was actually sorry for what he said.

I have seen this kind of thing many times and always wonder why people are allowed to get away with this crap.

I lost count of the number of times people have asked for forgiveness after getting caught.

What new attitude the guard has ? That he now will only insult people who he know for sure don't understand Thai ?

To the OP, I would send a lengthy but polite email detailing the issue to the Tesco headoffice in UK.

i asked the information counter staff to see the manager they point blank refused.

Personally I wouldn't have left until the manager was called, and be sure that he/she would have been eventually with enough persistence. If they really do absolutely refuse at the information counter, ask other staff, ring the customer service hotline, etc.

Sorry to heat what happened to you and your wife, it's beyond disgraceful,

Like one of the other replies quoted, I would not of left the building until the manager had came,

As for the Security guard, Ignorance is bliss.

People are cruel , there is just no need for this.

Tesco will reply that he is contracted by an outside security company, which are responsible for his actions.

They will do nothing while telling you that they have contacted them to make a complaint, and will contact you as soon as they hear back, which of course they won't do.

Hi all here is the expected reply

I sincerely apologise for the incident at Tesco Lotus Talad Klong Dan as outlined in your complaint. It is clearly unacceptable for our staff to insult customers in this manner.

Khun Samran, the security guard, overstepped the mark to assume that this kind of personal insult was acceptable as banter, or acceptable in any other context, whether he intended you to hear it or not.

We can assure you that this will never happen again to you at Tesco Lotus Talad Klong Dan, and I also apologise for not being available to address your initial complaint. I and the Tesco Lotus Talad Klong Dan store team hope you will continue to be a valued customer of Tesco Lotus.

    With kind regards

Chatchaphon Supappaiboon

Supermarket Store Manager

Tesco Lotus Talad Klong Dan

Your comments would be welcome

Banter? well at least their English was good.

Good to actually get a reply, and one that addresses the issue rather than a standard copy/paste response. Sounds like the security guard might have got a good ticking off, hence a good result I would think.

Well done, Tesco Lotus.  They've done what you wanted and apologised, you must be happy now.

Hopefully this will give a boost to their shareprice. Their performance has been woeful of late.

Not sure if you are willing to, but some locals would have gone to the police filing a complaint for abusive language.

the guard is a total coward saying it because he thinks you cant understand, he almost admits he wouldnt have the balls to say it if he thought you could understand
