All my stressing was for naught. Given the stamp, no questions, no demands for documentation, or proof of funds etc etc.

Didn't see anyone getting turned away either.

Also did NOT have to sign a paper about overstay.

It's just a non O. It doesn't say what for on the visa.

I too thought it was tough on the southern border, which was why I was stressing.

When you apply for it you have to apply based on something. Like retired over 50 or a Thai wife. So what was your reason ???

He didn't say he got the non-o in Malaysia. I think he already had one and was worried about being able to to enter the country. Which of course was not a problem.

How one does a border hop by train? Gets down at the border stop then wait for next train going back ?

Tickets bought where? All the details that make a difference.

I agree that the OP is quite assuming in his writing.

Question for the OP: Which border crossing did you use?

Op did specify train. As there is only rail one crossing on the southern border, a little online searching would have revealed it is probably Padang Besar. The problems were at the road crossing at Sadao with visa-van runs weren't they?

That's what happens. About a 10 hour wait for the international train back if I remember correctly. You can shorten the wait time by taking a bus back to Hat Yai and getting an earlier train. Thai railway stations have this thing called a ticket office where you can buy tickets for travel up to 90 days in advance. It's all in the guide books/ online travel guides

If you'd actually read my post, you would have seen <Given the stamp>, not given the visa, and you can't get a visa at the border anyway.

< Gets down at the border stop then wait for next train going back ?>

Not quite. Get down at the border, exit Thailand, enter Malaysia, exit Malaysia, enter Thailand ( just like any visa run at any border ). Then as said, either wait for the train to come back, or take the bus to Hat Yai ( you have to walk up the road a way to exit Malaysia/ enter Thailand by the road immigration post ) and bus or train from there.

<Tickets bought where?> What does that have to do with visas? You buy train tickets at a train station and a bus ticket either on the bus or at the bus station, depending on the type of bus.

If you need to know how to take the train to the border and back, you can start a thread asking about that. I'm only talking about visas on this thread.

Sorry to see that your forced train trip has made you so upset. Most members appreciate getting a little more content from reports, anyway, whatever point you wanted to make, thanks for that and goodbye.

"As there is only rail one crossing on the southern border,"
There are two ways to reach the border by rail along the Thai-Malaysian border that I am aware of. Padang Besar (Songkhla, TH) - Padang Besar and Sungai Golok - Rantau Panjang. I've done both several times.
A third option is to take a rapid train to Hat Yai, walk from the station to the minivan stand and ride to Danok. This is my prefered method and have done it several times.
I would be interested to know how the OP made his crossing and not at all concerned about crossing with a non-imm visa. It has been clarified by many posters here that there is no problem with doing that.

I didn't take that negative slant on his post.

Seems that your post has a bumper crop of assumptions as well, i.e., "must regard", "he assumes".

Why would a person wait until their visa expires to apply for the extension?

It can be applied for during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries the visa allows.
