We fly to the UK on the 26th. I know she leaves Thailand on the Thai passport. When we check in will the girl that checks us in and the immigration officer will probably ask for a visa....i assume i show them the UK passport...?

Any other tip about leaving and everting both countries are welcome with big wide open arms

The airline will need to know that she has permission to enter her destination.

Immigration when leaving will want to know whether or not she has been in the country legally; e.g. not overstayed.

Immigration on arrival will want to know whether or not she has permission to enter the country.

So:-

Thailand to UK;

  • At check in show the airline her British passport.
  • Show Thai immigration her Thai passport.
  • On arrival show UK immigration her British passport.

UK to Thailand;

  • At check in show the airline her Thai passport.
  • The UK does not routinely check the passports of those leaving; but if asked show UK immigration her British passport.
  • On arrival show Thai immigration her Thai passport.

In the unlikely event of anyone asking why the passport shown does not contain any visas or entry/exit stamps for the other country, explain she is a dual national and show the other passport.

Both the UK and Thailand allow dual nationality, so doing the above should not cause any difficulties.

Thank you, Her mum will be with us too. She has her UK visa in her Thai passport

If her mum does not have a British passport, then she uses her Thai passport with it's UK visa at each and every stage.

Although Thai immigration will, obviously, not be interested in her UK visa; whether or not she has permission to enter the UK is of no concern to them.
