Ricardo Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 This would provide grounds for a deep-searching investigation into Customs, which might not be a bad thing, wonder what it might throw up ? 1
khunjamesjohnson Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 It should not be hard to find them. After all how many business tycoons, generals and politicians are there? 1
catweazle Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Customs officials can’t account for up to 500 imported cars which have disappeared from privately held warehouses... 1
Triplebank999 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Brand new Diablo for sale. Unoriginal chassis number - but in good working order - offers please. Ooops..... wrong forum. Brand new (at least 13 years old) Diablo for sale?
belg Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 they can hire the same people that are inspecting the missing rice stockpiles
transam Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 they can hire the same people that are inspecting the missing rice stockpiles Or missing M16's..............
SCARLETIBIS1 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 John Burdett, the author of Bangkok Dangerous and a few others described it best. The impounded cars are brought in to a secure (haha) impound site along the river in Bangkok then a giant crane puts them aboard a barge and they disappear. Gee, I am sure it only happens in the book. 2
Don Aleman Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Even David Copperfield, who made a helicopter and a 747 disappear is mystified on making 500 autos vaporize - " Beam me up Scotty " ? 1
HerbalEd Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 The 200% tax is absurd. How stupid of them. If they'd lower it significantly they'd actually make more money in duty tax because there'd be many more cars to tax. This is a basic principle of business when many ... here in Thailand and throughout the world ... fail to understand.

Unless the tax is to force you to buy locally made cars.., Sent from my iPhone using Thaivisa Connect Thailand 3
FangFerang Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 "Apparently the cars vanished two months ago"... Interesting coincidence, but I would bet it was right after the coup....duh.
BIGTOE3 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Stop every super car every day that is seen on the roads for proof of tax paid ! The Hi So's will really get fizzed off and will "advise" the missing car owners to Find a solution quickly. BT 2
rickirs Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Why is imported property that is subject to tarrif duties/import taxes allowed to be stored in private warehouses instead of a government customs facilities where there would (theoretically) be assurances of adequate security and accountability? For the average person in Thailand purchasing property that is imported there is very specified handling of the property by customs to assure collection of taxes before release. Thailand needs to reform whatever deficiences there are that allowed these supercars (and no doubt similar high value properties) to disappear as quick as it writes blank checks for budget expendictures. 2
marcusd Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 PRIVATE WAREHOUSES??? Well make the warehouse owners FIND them or PAY for them. EASY 1

Unfortunately about 2 months ago when these cars vansihed, there was another person in power with cronies at the wheel
Sydebolle Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Anyone seem some car trailers heading towards the Department of Land Transport in Sisaket again lately?
Artisi Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Well bugger me! sounds like another rice scam scheme unfolding. I wonder what it costs to have a car "lost" from your untaxed stock.
Artisi Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 PRIVATE WAREHOUSES??? Well make the warehouse owners FIND them or PAY for them. EASY If cars went missing sometime back, where are the police reports detailing the theft's. Easy solution, collect the tax from the original owners / warehouse owners if not the same person.
ChrisY1 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Customs is another very lack of transparency department. That should be investigated! With the RTP performing customs, immigration, policing....etc..........who investigates them.....??
pb1936 Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Ridiculous..... I don't believe that the cars are either "missing " or " disappeared ". More likely they have been allowed to go to influential customers. The vehicles will have been ordered from suppliers in the counties of origin. They will have been paid for together with the costs of transportation and insurance prior to shipping, so the Customs documentation will identify the customer or agent, the supplier, and the shipping company. This information would be separate from the documents for the vehicle itself. Thus the details of the customer etc can be easily traced (unless this paperwork has been shredded) and it would not be difficult to trace the cars. But, unless the Army Chief gets on the case, I guess nothing more will come of it. Tax free cars for the privileged. 2
klauskunkel Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Customs officials are scratching their heads What I wouldn't give to take that picture...
MediaWatcher Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 gchurch259, on 05 Sept 2014 - 16:21, said: Guess an 'Ole Georgia/Texas" boy would suggest the Police stop and check the papers on all the Super Cars Speeding around town and highways. Really there is no need for such cars in this country any way, too dangerous in the wrong hands !! By the way, Where is the Red Bull Twerp that killed the policman in BKK ??? Ssssssh, they want us to "forget" about him..... fools, they think we are like Thais.
Evolare Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Now there's a surprise... Saying that 200 percent tax ?? A bit steep... Yeah and that's even less than the real number....for a super car the number is actually about 328% I have never seen a super car with less than 220horsepowers
klauskunkel Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 ...now they got to look for a ghost to blame
weegee Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 10 bucks says they are already in Hong Kong.....This was only a stop over point on the way there.
Gandtee Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Wow Mr. Somchai! You amaze me with your powers of deduction.
tifino Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 cars disappear - "you not know thai culture - it thai customs"
lazygourmet Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Our neighbor in Nonthaburi is an "exotic-cars" dealer. According to him, most of his clients barely never drive them ; instead they are keeping them in a garage either as an investment, trophy or piece of art.
Crushdepth Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Customs is the most corrupt part of the government IMHO. They have no shame at all and are a major impediment to legitimate businesses and trade. Seriously need the cleaners put through them. 2
Albertosez Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Well, well, well officer - IMO I think it's foul play here - as the actress said to the bishop ! I think a very organized organization ( are these 2 x words allowed together Mr Oxford / Ms Cambridge ), have co-opted to move these motors out of that warehouse at night !! ?? Illegally, whilst the Guard was in the bathroom relieving himself- which of course wouldn't have taken long enough to remove all of them cars - judging by previous threads about prematurity and things like that ? Maybe if he was pruning himself in the bathroom - then this theory might have just been feasible ...... ??
