Recently somebody has mored a water park type white plastic giant pyramid/castle in the middle of the beach. It is horrible and an eyesore. Things like that belong in Chaweng or Patong but not here in Lamai. I don't see any children playing on it so maybe it is not the money spinner the owner was hoping for. I personally hope it will blow away in the coming rainy season.

And the jellyfish have arrived. Yesterday I saw a few of the big ones but today there is an invasion of the tea cup sized ones. Various colours. Specially in the area around the big boulders.

Other than that I still love Lamai Beach.

OP, Being Greek, I like swimming and spear gun fishing.

How can you enjoy the sea when is full of jellyfish?

Never been to Lamai Beach, but it doesn't sound very inviting for me.

Why do you like so much Lamai Beach?

Lamai was probably the nicest Samui beach. Far nicer than Chaweng. For many years they resisted 'developing' it...now shan't be going back. Far SW beaches and islands much better. At one stage they had a charming bar which was a functioningcarousel/merry-go-round with a nicely painted advert 'Welcome I make for you 500'

How old and bitter do you have to be to get upset about a floating bouncy castle?

I guess the answer is "very" and "very" :-) It seems endemic on here nowadays.

There was one on Chaweng Beach for the past few years, in fact there was a few different type of inflatables next to each other and promoted as a water fun park from memory.

Perhaps the owners have sought and been granted permission to move one of the inflatables to Lamai, either that or it's a new business.

Good reply Khun Long.

I think Lamai Beach is beautiful and relatively undeveloped. So when I post an observation about a large floating bouncy castle being an eyesore I guess it was inevitable that I would get some responses from people who like that sort of thing. Well good luck to them.

The speargun and inflatable castle sound like a good combo. Lamai is nice last time I was there nice beach and more chilled than Chaweng and some very playful kittens to entertain you of an evening at the local bars.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULES!

The last place there should be an eyesore on the shore!

Down market - Low Quality. - Non Sense...

First they clear the beaches then they cover the sea....

I enjoyed lamaii because it was as it should be (It wasn't perfect But Catered for most)

Why do they have to vandalize every "painting" in Thailand??

Tourist save for a year or years to come to Thailand It takes 11 hours to get here from Europe and at least 17 from USA -

Most don't want a cheap, tacky, dirty, fun fair bouncy castle on a paradise beach!

(Keep it in Chaweng)

TAT: "Quality Tourists"

Defeats the object...

I always get these replies when I make any comment on the trashing of the Thai enviroment.

How does a floating bouncy castle trash the environment?

It's just something fun for kids.

You guys are miserable old coots.

THEY have NO choice or say in the matter.

Don't worry too much about these sort of responses No.1Farang........ you could be 16 years old and very positive for all we know. Just don't like seeing a beautiful beach turned into another Patong right? I always get these replies when I make any comment on the trashing of the Thai enviroment. Just have to realise that Thailand really does attract a lot of people who actually like seeing the beaches commercialised with this sort of garbage......deckchairs, trash everywhere, jetskis, etc etc......they love it.

That's a rather rough comment.......a bit like me calling you a looser because you like this sort of tacky shit. But of course I would never do that.

On a more serious note......well yes, of course it is for 'the kids' (actually more for the profit of some locals). But here you have a beautiful beach to play on and show the children, who may well come from areas where there are no beaches/crappy beaches/polluted beaches/beaches with jetskis and bouncy castle........and you want to instil in them that nature can be improved upon by dumping a giant load of ugly plastic on the sand. Maybe take the kids to Pattaya or Patong Beaches to give them the full commercial beach experience.

Actually I've mostly found it to be the young and positive that can enjoy the natural beauty of a beautiful beach without the need for crass, tacky commercialism.

Kids don't need the castle. It is there because it is placed there by locals who don't have the slightest clue about a beautiful environment.

And poker..whatever and i certainly am not a coot, whatever that may be.

There's this bounce thing on my favorite quite spot of Maenam also.

Here on South Chaweng, harmony still prevails.

They have taken that down, while the restaurant is being rebuilt! wink.png

Assuming this is the one you mean! PS ??? Looks like fun! thumbsup.gif

These beaches are all kilometers long, I can't see that a few things for kids to have fun, would destroy the whole beach! blink.png

I agree with Pokerspiv! thumbsup.gif

Lamai is quite popular with families and I'm off there tomorrow with my son he loves bouncy castles even got him a small one in mine. Not sure how a bouncy castle harms the environment as you just pack it up at night however it does knacker out the kids and give parents a few extra hours of us time whilst the kids sleep earlier than usual. Having said that if it was only a weekend thing I would be happy with that too.

It's similar to the one in Chaweng, they all differ a bit in color etc.......:

No, It was in the water, where the mainland cable comes in.

That's where this is/ was Electric cable come in to the right of this pic! !

Do you mean the arm chair thingy that runs behind a speed boat....? not seen that in a while either blink.png Perhaps it's moved to a slightly busier beach!

On Ban Tai beach there are some kiddy slides and swings.... might be for people staying at one of the resorts?

Regardless, there are people asking here on the forum, which are "child friendly" beaches.... Ban Por beach too has a few play things too, one has to search these things out ....wink.png

I'm neither old nor bitter, but when one of these appeared @ Choeng Mon beach a few years ago it came with a rather tacky 'PRICE 100 BAHT' written on it in black marker pen and was policed by the jet ski thugs-to the point where teenage girls were blatantly groped while males were assaulted or unceremoniously evicted for not paying instantly (100m offshore in swimming trunks!) or failing to understand that it wasn't free. The duration of the 100 baht was supposed to be for a full day, but many that went back after an hour or two were expected to cough up twice.

If it's going to be done it needs to be done properly- No 'policing' except perhaps a lifeguard, & free because takings will surely rise.

Why should someone invest in something like this so you can use it for free?

If they want to charge for it they can, get over yourself.

Bunch of communists on this board.
