Oooooh dear........ Simple solution, drop the Bht back to 70 baht to the pound or whatever currency your working with, stop trying to charge the backside out of everybody, and don't forget where a lot of westerners come from has a lot more ( Culturally) to offer than Thailand has taxis...... Thailand was fun when it was cheap........ Now not so much......... I'm paying in western bars now, between 200 Bht - 300 Bht a pint........ More than Hong Kong, london, New York, etc, etc,,,,,,,,,, And i'm too old to sit at the end of soi 13 (Lagos) drinking cheap P-SS........ Two of the most saleable commodities in the world, and Thailands managed to cock it up,......... P-s- and Pus-y......... TAT ( Totally Outta Touch.) Yeah and while i'm on, clean the dump up ! Krabi looks like a Chinese squat toilet..........

i have just spent 10 days on samui and believe me after many years of going to Chaweng 3-4 times a year I wont be back ...there are very few tourist centres here in thailand that are even of interest anymore ...sick of all the touts, (ridicules loud promotion pickup trucks in chawang) footpaths that are a waste of time, dirty and really how they promote thailand as a paradise i have no idea......thailand really dropped the ball , too much greed and could not care less attitude

Chaweng is the worst part of Samui in many regards. A bit like visiting the UK and staying in Newcastle. Or visiting the US, and staying in Ontario. Kind of the armpit of Samui. Especially with horrendous places like the Ark Bar. Admit your mistake.

"Or visiting the US, and staying in Ontario."

I presume you mean Ontario, California? Seems like a nice place based on this info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario,_California

Of course the other Ontario, nobody ever visits.whistling.gif

If stupid european or oceanian pepole do not like to vacation in thailand they are welcome to never come back, do not mind if they do not get tourists to Thailand, remember one thing, it's not <deleted> their land, you are guests, i would never never never vacation in australia, it's racist and idiotic people I have ever met and especially communist.

same with france, pepole are so <deleted> rasistic there and arrogant and to much muslims..

If the very sought after Chinese tourist is a gauge for top vacation destinations, both Thailand and Australia are slipping. ;b++){var>

Bit harsh on Newcastle there. The town center, like many, is best avoided on a friday/saturday night, but it's not that bad in general.

Ontario, California. I've been there. I don't recommend it.

The crank handle attendant has greasy palms , the hands keep slipping of the crank handle, Thailand has lots of internal problems and it doesn't matter how much cranking go's on at the end of the day it's just another name for W!!!kingcoffee1.gif

using the "LURE" word is not a wise marketing ploy, might work on the population of Asia but farangs know very well what the word means. The word automatically sets off alarms and indicates it is a scam and a trap. Dump your marketing company because they are killing you.

I agree. Every time I see that used in marketing, I think of a fishing lure and the tourist is the fish.

Lure them in, gut them (get as much money as fast as possible), chop off the head (cheat and scam them) and chuck them back into water.

I do hope TAT monitors these comments as the comments above about touts & bloodsuckers needs to be addressed NOW.

Moviing on from there TAT don"t waste too much hard earned tax payers monies (including mine) on luring Chinese nor main stream Indian

(one beer & 6 straws please) coach tour quality tourists here (no racism intended ) as they do not spend any monies in this country. Even the tour operators profits end up off shore & I bet they do not fly Thai.

Forget about the bums in the bed theory (I know thats where you get your bonus, but should'nt be) start concentrating on the next level up

who will go shopping, use restaurants, bars etc, not just 7/11.

The TAT clearly need better gimmicks, to trick lure more tourists into coming here, perhaps they should buy-in some counterfeit-ones to supplement the home-grown lies slogans ? whistling.gif

I feel a study-trip overseas, first-class travel & 5-star hotels natch, coming on ! facepalm.gif

Funny, I could have sworn that Ontario was in another country, and not the USA, or was that the point ? blink.png

Yes, I meant Ontario, CA. The entire San Gabriel Valley is pretty mediocre.

TAT should better spend their budget in Thailand and on basic needs:

- Recruit people to clean beaches..

- Maybe open a few schools (Vocational type) specialised in welcoming foreigners and hospitality business.

- Train workers...

Instead of wasting money of monthly idiotic slogan contests...

That would probably have much more impact..

Ontario, California is in the San Gabriel Valley about 50 miles east of Los Angeles. Fairly large city with a regional airport. Very smoggy area, and very busy, with a ridiculously busy section of the I-10 freeway. Hence the reference to Ontario being somewhat comparable to Chaweng, as the armpit of Samui. Samui is a really beautiful island, but you have to get away from that area to really see it.

'For Australia and New Zealand, tourists will be encouraged to re-visit beaches and islands in the South. This year, TAT will look for high spenders by bringing operators to join the "Luxperience Mart" in Sydney from September 5-9.'

I'm not sure visitors from those countries, who look after their counties coastline would be too impressed with what's on offer in Thailand. Here beaches and Islands have been ruined by pollution, illegal development, scams, touts and rubbish. If you want to see a pristine beach go to NZ or Australia, I have never seen anything to compare in Thailand.

Start with CLEANING the Beaches........

I calculated that for about $2500 per month, you could put together a crew of 3, who cleaned a different beach each day on Samui. Every 60 days they would cover the entire Island. Has it been done? No. Many beaches are cleaned by the hotels. Others are left alone. And what about the water? Relatively unsafe for swimming due to sewage waste. Has that been addressed? Thailand is world famous for avoiding the underlying issue, at all costs. Denial. Obfuscation. Child like inability to look within and reflect on the issues at hand. Almost to a comical degree. If it were not real. But is is real. And nearly everyone worldwide knows it.
