Advice for a pediatrician required

Featured Replies

Does anybody go for medical treatment to Samitivej Thonburi Hospital? Need an advice on a good pediatrician, after a rather frustrating experience at St. Louis. Thank you!

You need to choose the doctor, not the hospital. Not-so-good doctors can be found in all hospitals, without exception, and most also have some good ones.

As for Samitivej Thonburi, they have only 5 pediatricians on staff, 3 of whom specifically specialize in allergy. If that fits your child's problem then this one http://www.samitivejhospitals.com/DoctorProfile/PEDIATRICS_STN0059/en is the best trained (US board certified).

Otherwise, in the Thonburi area the best specialists are generally found at Siriraj or Thonburi Hospital (where many of the Siriraj faculty have private hours). Go to their website, click on find doctor, then pediatrics, then each doctors name to see their qualifications and sub-specialties. http://www.thonburihospital.com/en

For Siriraj, while they have a private wing wherein you can select a specific doctor, AFAIK they do not have a listing of doctors in English on the web.

Would help to know the nature of the problem...

Many thanks for the information and advise!

It's just the general proficiency level or, at least, the level of consideration and care in our case of the 2 paediatricians that were treating our son in St.Louis that is very questionable. So, naturally, we do not want to return there again. I was hoping to hear some first-hand experiences and recommendations for the reliable doctor.

Oh, sorry, forgot to mention, the nature of the problem. The viral stomach infection does not seem to be fully cured after 2 nights at the hospital and several subsequent days of treatment at home.

If it is indeed a viral infection there really isn't a treatment other than to ensure the child does not become dehydrated, and it is not unusual for it to last several days to a week before improving. But I do appreciate your need for a doctor who shows concern and spends time explaining things.

There is an American doctor specializing in family medicine (inc. children) at Mission Hospital which is not far from Thonburi, suggest you try him. Dr. Nick Walters. http://www.mission-hospital.org/index.php/en/component/sobipro/?task=search.results&sid=54

Or if you want to stay in Thonburi area, see if you can get an appointment with Prof. Kulkanya Chokephaibulkit at Siriraj, she is US trained and U.S. board certified, and specializes in infectious diseases in children. Siriraj now has a private wing where you can see their top specialists by appointment http://www.siphhospital.com/en/index.html
