Movies in Scala & Lido

Featured Replies

As a regular movie watcher at these theaters in Bangkok I have been dissappointed at the movies showing there in recent weeks. Normally there is a good selection of recent "western" new releases but in last 3 weeks it has been ,to put it politely..Junk!. They have "Sex Tape" and "Boyhood" showing for the last 3 weeks. The "BoyHood" movie is showing at Scala for 2 weeks following. Dohh why? I emailed them about recent movies but got no reply. When the multiplexes are showing new such as "November Man" and "Lucy" these normally reliable theaters have no movie changes. When they are under threat from developers (Chula Uni owners of land) they need to do better than this to survive.

As they are very old venues (date back almost 50 years) expect there time has come.

If they're under threat from developers it really doesn't matter what they show, they are there on borrowed time.

Years ago they were in their element compared to the popcorn multiplexes that sprouted up everywhere. Now with internet and home entertainment their days are numbered.

I must admit I enjoy both these cinemas "Scala and Lido".....

I also enjoy there choice of films, hence the reason I,prefer going there, rather than to mainstream Cinema Complexes.

I find there choice,of Movies, excellent, they always have one or two, which is either Retro or Arty,

Reminds me very much of "The Electric Cinema" in Notting Hill in .

To be honest I am not keen on a lot of the new movies that come out, normally too violent, or the usual Sci Fi or the ones with Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis ?? Not my thing...

Ah yes, Braveheart, that was a good film. Saw it at Siam before the place was torched.
