BANGKOK, Sept 15 -- ASEM member countries have been urged to consider joint investment in developing basic infrastructure in Thailand and elsewhere in Asia, aimed at supporting trade and investment connectivity, Finance Minister Sommai Phasi said.

Just returned from attending the 11th Asia-Europe Finance Ministers’ Meeting in Milan, Italy on Friday, Mr Sommai said he had informed finance ministers from 49 countries at the meeting that the Thai government’s policy is for a wide and free economy which looks for sustainable growth.

Mr Sommai said he had invited ASEM states to help finance logistics systems in Asia where the private sector is invited to co-invest to help reduce governmental financial burdens.

He informed the participants about the interim Thai government’s economic policy and urged them to have confidence in Thailand as the National Council for Peace and Order which seized power in Thailand on May 22 plans to hold a free and fair general election next year.

Confidence by investors and consumers has risen steadily with the new.
