Over 100 investigators involved in probe of tourists’ murder

BANGKOK: -- More than 100 Bangkok-based police investigators have been sent to Surat Thani to investigate the murder of two British tourists on Koh Tao about a week ago, said Pol Gen Somyos Poompanmuang, the acting national police chief, today.

The investigators who include the best of the police force are under the supervision of Pol Maj-Gen Suwat Chaengyodsook, acting commander of the investigation division of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, he added.

The acting police chief disclosed that the latest DNA tests of DNA samples taken from about 30 suspects did not match with the DNAs of the two victims or with the DNAs found on evidences collected from the crime scene.

As for the latest two suspects, he said that results of their DNA tests are yet to be known and, therefore, it could not be said at this stage whether the two had any connection with the crime.

However, he said that police had expanded their investigation and would do their best to solve the case.

For a change it's Too Much Too late

A small, dedicated team that knows what they are doing would suffice but TIT so none of the foregoing applies.

What I find disconcerting is whatever the outcome it would appear from the nature of the media reports that the police have little ability to handle or investigate a crime like this and seem pretty much unaware of their shortcomings as well.

One hopes that there will be a successful outcome in the end, for the families' sakes, but one would also hope that this will bring about a major overhaul of how the Thai police are trained to handle such incidents in the future.

There's an old saying that goes: a fool throw a stone in the ocean, a 1,000 wise men

will not find.... that said. I can't see any other way that this case can be solved but by

the Thai BIB, so let's give them a chance shall we.....

The next move no doubt the redoubtable Chalerm returns and fingers the culprits as he knew everything. Case solved justice(?) seen to be done.

I disagree:

if the 100, or even less, were flooding the island and knocking on doors, and guaranteeing anonymity,

they will get someone to talk,

not everyone will remain silent, as for every person afraid of the mob,

there is one business owner, or one house cleaner, that wants this to stop, and wants to see the perp locked up, for their own reasons, and the 713,000 baht

It would be the obvious choice, as he normally knows "everything", especially regarding mafia activities. However, not really sure if he is available at present.

Why only negative responses? Personally, I think there is a hell of a lot more police work being done than is publicised and instead of being so critical, why not let the police/investigators do their job and if anything, be positive. So, unless any of you 'nay' sayers know exactly what is going on behind the scenes, would it not be best to keep quiet about it?

why?

..... because ever since this incident occurred 95+% of the posts on this thread and the multitude of others have been demeaning and negative which does not help anybody at all. That's why.

Yea, just say nothing. So what if the're doing a bad job - least they're trying, right?

Everyone keep quiet and think positively. If we do this for long enough, maybe the killers will hand themselves in. Leave it even longer and maybe we'll all just forget about it. It's giving some people a headache and that's not fair.

South post # 22.

..... Because ever since this incident occurred 100% of the police farce force comments and (in)actions on the matter have been demeaning and negative which does not help anybody at all. That's why.

Didn't take long did it? Point proven.
