Russian card skimmer arrested at Hua Mark

BANGKOK: -- Hua Mark police have arrested a Russian card skimmer as he returned to pick up his skimming device fixed to a Kasikorn bank's ATM machine in front of the 7-Eleven convenience store on Ramkhamhaeng Soi 58/3 road Monday evening.

His name was withheld as the police ate still hunting for his accomplices who are still at large.

The arrest came after a customer spotted a new skimming device being fixed to the ATM machine at Soi Ramkhamhaeng 58/3 while he was trying to withdraw cash from the machine, but could not make through.

He then removed the device out and alerted the Hua Mark police and the bank.

It was later found be the first of its kind ever found. The gang also installed a miniature camera at the ATM to record the code numbers of customers’ ATM cards.

Footage from a surveillance camera at the ATM in question has shown that the skimmers are foreigners and police were alerted to look for them.

The Kasikorn bank said that the skimming device was found out before damages were done to its customers. The bank also thanked a customer, a Mr Viriya Lokavinart, who alerted the bank of the suspicious things at the ATM.

A plot to arrest the skimming gang was then arranged by Hua Mark on belief that the gang would return to pick the device.

Plainclothes police were deployed near the Soi since 10.00 p.m. Sunday until the Russian riding in a motorcycle parked near the soi at about 4 p.m. Monday.

As he walked up to the ATM and removed the day device out, plainclothes police charged at him and apprehended him red-handed.

Hua Mark police said the Russian gang might have stolen money from the bank for several times. They are hunting for his accomplices who are still at large.

Great story. Dont print the suspects name. But tell them the exact place and the witnesses full name so they can go and kill him now. Brilliant piece of work. So the others involved would never even guess from this story that their mate has been arrested and they are being looked for because his name has not been mentioned. I have trouble with the logic in this.

you can fool some people some time, you cannot fool all the people all the time.

But you can get unlimited out/in border trips ALL of the time if your Russian.

He may well be a Ukrainian himself...

Many thousands of Ukrainians have bought Russian passports (the real ones) due to the simplified procedure of obtaining the Russian citizenship over the last 10 years in the Ukraine (before the crisis). I was told the cost was around $200 - $300, in Odessa, way back in 2006.

In fact there are more Ukrainians living in Thailand than the real Russians nowadays...

If you meet Russian speaking people in Thailand chances are 50/50 they are in fact Ukrainians.

here is the solution for all banks but it's

will cost them some money, but those money can they get back when the bank

not have to repay customers. they have to make a ATM machine mostly flat so it's impossible to make the instalation of the card skimmer and cameras

..why don't they give us a clear look at it.....and at the camera and its location..so that we can know what to look for.....???

The Ukrainian are running all the nightclubs for years. As long as the Thai are getting paid. Who cares. TIT

These people should be dropped in the crocodile pond at Samutprakan and televised for top entertainment :)

Not an inactive position left in Thailand? Normally criminals are just moved to inactive positions here.... whistling.gif

Hmmmmmm. A RUSSIAN card skimming piece of scum arrested!!! And Thailand want allow these people to virtually live full time here. What a twisted country this is

Great PR for the Russians, but who gives a .....

Nevertheless, lock up the bastards and throw away the keys.

By the way the man who informed the bank and the police has to look over his backshoulder now, thanks to brilliant news posting. Wow!!

Yeah, they named the customer who reported it but withheld the name of the suspect!

Glad we got in a "farang bad" story today to balance out the news coming from Koh Tao. Nice little break from the TCT stories.
