This has to be introduced with strong stiff penalties , its no use otherwise, and when you look at the time it has taken to get this far , you can see that there is nothing in it for politicians , underlying all of this is the crims that profit from animal cruelty , with the time it has taken to get this far makes you wonder just who is involved in this type of industry , that TAT wouldn't like the tourists to hear about. Regarding stiff penalties, I hope one of the things the NLA will look into is to change the ridiculous fixed fines used in Thai law, when they make a law they write down the fine amount and it stays the same as years pass by, so a penalty that looked harsh in the fifties now it's laughable. The fines should be both high and automatically adjusted for inflation.

Animal rights group calls for anti animal cruelty law

BANGKOK: -- Animal rights advocates have called on the National Legislative Assembly (NLA) to speedily promulgate an anti animal cruelty law to prevent animal cruelty, and ensure the wellbeing of animals.

The Thai Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (TSPCA) on Thursday asked the NLA speaker Phonphet Wichitchonlachai to pass a legislation after having accumulated numerous signatures of those in support of a bill against animal cruelty and that which fosters animals’ well-being.

According to the TSPCA, it wanted the NLA to finally enact an existing bill on animal well-being and animal cruelty prevention.

The animal well-being advocacy group has, together with other networks, been backing the bill for at least ten years. .

It also noted that no political motives are associated with this bill, and the drive to have it enacted is fueled by members of the public who want Thailand to have a law against animal cruelty and to ensure the well-being of all types of animals.

Crazy Chef 1. You are apparently looking at this through rose colored glasses. You surely can not Be oblivious to the treatment, or non treatment of animals here. Just 2 days ago I went to what was termed an Elephant refuge that turned out to be A tourist attraction. The first dog I saw was so eaten up with fleas and infection his hip bones were poking through. Elephants are trained with cruel pain. Thais have been walking around these poor animals and no one did a thing. The Thais I asked about it said, "We can't fix everything" therefor they don't strive to fix any of it. The dogs on the street are flea bitten and eat out the gutters. It's a different mindset and as long as people think all is great because they are Buddhist is not being realistic. Please open your eyes and help the societies that are striving to change this. There is a world wide Elephant walk in Oct to highlight the mistreatment and poaching of elephants. Would live to have you join us.
