The best sea food I had was in Ratchada. I am not sure about the place name, I guess it could even be SeaFood Ratchada, not sure though...

Surprised no one has mentioned the big Seafoor Market on Sukhumvit So1 24.

Had a lovely meal and experience there last time I visited BKK. As a tourist am I just mssing the better ones hidden away somewhere then??

Guess the seafood market is for first time visitors and tourists. Interesting experience but by far too expensive.

Service? Oh well.

I'm guessing that by "above all clean" is your code phrase for you don't frequent Thai street or outdoor places. :o

Excluding these types of places, which IMHO are some of the best, you might want to try Samboon at the corner of Surawong and Narathiwat (a favorite of Japanese tour groups). Further down Narathiwat past Sathorn are a number of good places such Pakrong or Olive Keeper. On Convent Road, there is Bua (also in Central Rama III mall and maybe more places). Speaking of Central Rama III, there is an amazing selection of resturants in there.

One thing Bangkok has is plenty of really good resturants. Our problem is we find one we like and we keep going back instead of finding new places. TH

I insist on the places in Ratchada. Excellent seafood, very good atmosphere and very reasonable prices.

Maybe depends which one. The huge, obvious one up Ratchada is quite expensive and they charge you extra if you show up in a taxi and give your driver a cut.

I guess I like the smaller, "dirty" Thai places. They have the most wonderful flavors and cheaper prices. You won't find lobsters at such places and the atmosphere may not be for everyone, but what they do offer on the menu tastes so much better. Go to a classy place and your tom yum goong may have just shelled shrimp tails and is kind of bland; it's ok, but not sumptuous. Go to a thai place where they drop in the whole shrimp body and all plus use generous spices and you get that rich orange color and flavor that is killer. Same for other type things. Best to go with Thai's and let them order. You'll discover lots of new and great tasting things.

on Khao San Road there is a place in a corner shop house, large, open sided and well lighted and it has seafood and fish on ice outside on the sidewalk, run by chinese...select what you want and voila...

had a memorable meal there...cheap too...good to go with a thai friend to instruct the waitress how you want things prepared. Basic arrangement inside with ceiling fans and formica tables...can't remember the name but is listed in the usual tour guides...went there with a US associate in BKK on business and the wife...great time

(blind drunk US assoc. 'tutsi, are we in Guaymas?'...'no, man...in BKK...')

There's a place on Rama 4 about 200m from Carrefour (towards Asoke) that I have been going to for years. Good food and popular with the locals and cheap. You'd recognise it by the fish tanks at the front. Sign only in Thai.

The best area by far in Bangkok for seafood restaurants is Praditmanutham Rd. close to intersection of and Kasat Namin Rd., also all along Namin Rd.

There are at least 20 huge restaurants, usually with large gardens and/or huge ponds.

You can't miss them they are all over the place, most with huge signs.

Waterside is definitly a popular one, where the whole restarant is build over a lake.

95% of the time, in tourist areas you will get less for your money than in areas frequented by a mainly Thai customer base, so of course places like Silom and Suk, will be overpriced compared to other less known areas.

Also Gin Lom Chom Suphan (sorry sign is in Thai) on Samsen 3 is great, excellent food and right on the Chao Phraya, on the weekends they light up the Pharam 5 bridge which you will have a view of.

Live band there is great also.

Should be no problem to spend less than a 1,000 baht drinks included for 2 people, at any of these places.

The restaurant at the start of Samsen Soi 6 near KSR. Doesnt look like much. But the food is fantastic. Or the food court area on Suk Soi 7. Both excellent and cheap.

I'll second that Samsen Soi 6 place, very good!

Also quite good is a small place between Sukkumvit Soi 5 and 7. Cheap(ish) also.

One to avoid is Somboondee by Phaya Thai BTS station - awful food and service for an extortionate price which is full of sneaky hidden charges.

The place in Rachada is my favourite. For the quality of the seafood I think its pretty cheap if you compare to those around sukhumvit/silom.

The name is 'Por Kung Pao Ratchada' 91/2 Ratchada Rd. Dindang Bangkok. Open till the morning.

The restaurants of the Somboon group are good.

One branch is at the corner Surawong/Narathiwas, another along Ratchada , next th MRT Huay Kwang and one more in Sukhumvit Soi 103 (Udomsuk) , 150m on the right before Srinakarin.

Good food.

At the river there are various places under the Yok Yor Brand which are all offering tasty seafood.

A nice Thai restaurant that serves a variety of dishes including Seafood is on Soi55. Thong Lor Station.

35bht Taxi down to the corner of crosstreet Soi-13.

Don't remember the name but always full of Thai people. Easy to find.

They have fish cakes, shrimp cakes, steamed and fried fish, shrimps, etc. and stuffed squid that is excellent. The standard Thai dishes too and probably a few specialties.

The Yok Yor Seafood on the River has live entertainment. Great views here.

You can get the Yok Yor shuttle boat at Skytrain Taksin Station.

For a treat you might go to the bar at the Hilton Millnium, next door.
