For the past three days I have been able to access my contacts in both of my G-Mail accounts.

When I try to access the contacts, I get the following message: Oooops....the system encountered a problem (#101). G-Mail retries forever with no results.

The help offered is no help at all. I thought this would be temporary, but it continues.

Any ideas appreciated.

Have you tried access the contacts using another browser?

Contacts can be accessed through multiple vectors. There are at least two web interfaces that display them.

https://contacts.google.com / https://www.google.com/contacts/#contacts

https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?tab=wm#contacts

If you are having issues accessing secure sites (e.g.: https), make sure your PC clock is synchronized (in Internet Time) via NTP. If time.microsoft.com isn't working, try using 0.asia.pool.ntp.org

RichhCor,

I tried both sites you suggested. No go on Explorer or Firefox.

Also I have not been able to open gmail with explorer at all. Only opens with Firefox.

You are right; my clock is not working and I change the date manually each day.

Also I manually change the time, but it does not really work for ore than a couple of minutes.

A couple of months ago, I could not open gmail from Firefox, but I managed to discover that the "certificate" was not current.

I changed something and can open gmail with Firefox.

This issue with accessing my contacts has only happenned in the last few days.

I will try on another computer, but really need to get contacts from this laptop.

Google's Gmail requires a secure connection to access your mail and other google services through the web.

On many systems using SSL (secure socket layer), a time deviation of >5 minutes between your system clock and the secure server you are accessing can cause authentication issues.

The correct Date/Time should first be set on the motherboard in System BIOS, then maintained by the OS. If your motherboard can not keep time it may mean you need to replace your BIOS (clock) Battery.

I think the BIOS clock battery does need replacing. Any idea of likely estimated cost to do this?

Not sure where you are located, but I wonder of any readers know a reliable place in the southern

Part of Phuket that can do the job.

I could use the HP Repair shop, but they usually send computer to Bangkok and it could take as long as two weeks

Thanks for your ideas

Very simple thing to do yourself.. take the CMOS motherboard battery out, take it to any shop that sells watches and get same Size and Voltage, return home pop in and reset time on you PC.

Do you have a PC or Laptop ??

HP you say, maybe help http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=uk&lc=en&docname=bph04375

otherwise if you have no idea, Google search........ replacing CMOS batteryon Laptop for Dummies... or replacing CMOS battery on Desktop for Dummies

Come by the computer group meeting on Sunday morning near Chalong Circle, will fix you up. Simple and free but for cost of battery, about 30 baht. PM me for details.

Sounds great. What is the best time to stop by?

Do you need details about the make, serial number etc for the laptop?

And what about tools?

If you give him the Make/Model of your laptop

then it's just simple google search to find out what size battery. According to Wikipedia, "the memory and real-time clock are generally powered by a CR2032 lithium coin cell."

Usually just need a small phillips screwdriver to open an access panel on the bottom of the case.
