BANGKOK: -- His Majesty the King's condition has improved, with his heartbeat back to normal and body temperature almost normal, according to the latest statement by the Royal Household Bureau.

The much-revered monarch has been receiving treatment at Siriraj Hospital in Bangkok.

He was admitted last Friday with high fever. Late on Sunday, he underwent a successful surgery to remove the gall bladder.

In its statement yesterday, the Bureau said the pain from the surgical wound had subsided and His Majesty was able to start eating. However, he continues to receive saline drops and parenteral feeding.
