Hotels, Nongkai And Udorn

We (family of 3) expect to be in Udorn and Nongkai for a night or two and are looking for a reasonable priced hotel (around B 1000 to 1500). Also does anyone have any info on Phu Phrabat Historical Park which is in that area? Do they have rooms in the park or nearby? Thanks for any information.

Pantawee Nong Khai is fine

The above is okay, economical and central, but the Nong Khai Grand is in your price range and has much nicer rooms and better facilities, including a pool. I used to like the Music Room, but it wasn't as lively last time I visited. There is a cafe just across the road for people who like 'nak rong'.

When I am in Udon I stay at the Siri Grand Hotel. It's 500 baht per night and has a free Thai style buffet breakfast. It's not the best hotel I have ever stayed at but it's pretty good and hard to beat as far as the price. The address is;

12 Benjang Road - Telephone number 042 324 514 - 9

for that price you can stay at the chroen Grand Sri. Best hotel in Udon.

Good luck on your trip.

Best hotel in Udon Thani and good price.

Charoensri Hotel

Naka.

I would disagree with these two recommendations. I have stayed at the Charoensri Grand Hotel two times before. In my opinion, it is the 2nd best hotel in Udon. It has the obvious advantages of being connected to the mall and being right inside the downtown area so lots of food places and internet places are within walking distance. It cost around 900-1200 Baht per night.

For the same money, I would choose to stay at the Ban Chiang Hotel, where I have stayed around 5-7 times before. I think the hotel itself is nicer, the rooms are nicer, they have a nice pool and gym there, and give a great breakfast buffet in the morning. Its also downtown and only a short ride away from the mall. Its also closer to the nice lake and walking park in Udon Thani. I also remember the Ban Chiang having more TV channels than the Chareoensri hotel.

Of course, its just my opinion. Perhaps the two guys that recommended the Charoensri hotel have never stayed at the Ban Chiang before?

One place you must go to is Enricos Italian resturant right in front of the mall. He just moved into this building not too long ago. The owner, Enrico and his Thai wife, run the place. He is from Italy and brought in an Italian cook to help there too. He has great Italian food for being in Udon Thani and flies a lot of food in straight from Italy. He is a nice guy to talk to, real friendly. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place. Try it out!
