sorry

Don't be! We're here to help you. I did a search, but nothing came up regarding closure. There's a report on Trip Advisor from 2 weeks ago. So if it is closed, must have just happened. Their website seems to be down.

Let's see if somebody can come along and help us out.

I have checked a couple of my contacts but no one has heard anything, I will keep checking. I have tried most of the booking websites and nothing is listed as available. Website domain appears to be expired or lapsed.

The road from Baan Tai to Thong Nai Pan is "finished", that is it is paved all of the way, there are just some minor works that need to be done.

Seems to me, that some of these smaller resorts close up, during the slow season, in that area... So that could be the case... (that is the way it used to be anyway!)

Perhaps too it has change hands and using another name... or been knocked down for one of the higher end resorts around there.... ????

I ran past yesterday, there were some staff around, all the vehicles were parked outside and a few lights were on in the rooms. I will note that I still cannot get them to show up in the results on the booking websites include for high season (Feb) next year. Maybe they only want to take direct bookings at the moment.

No one that I have spoken to has heard anything about them closing, renaming or having sold up (and you would hear if a couple 100M baht had changed hands). All the big resorts are on Noi and Candle Hut is on Yai (if right at the end) so unlikely to have been brought for an expansion.

Real shame what happened on Noi.....sitting at Stone Beach restaurant watching the moonlight bouncing off the surf used to be an evening joy......

Thank you, so maybe it is open, but it seems that this year many resorts are closed until high season because the weather is so bad and the beach to dirty ? Or do you think it is just as every low season ?

And what happened to TONG NAI PAN NOI ? It's very crowded there, right ?

Possibly open but the reservation staff are on holiday and have closed off all the websites so they don't have anything to catch up on when they return. Maybe they are taking walk-ins. At the moment the tide is quite high maybe 2/3rds of the beach is under water and waves are starting to form. Normal low season stuff, most places around are open but with reduced staff because of holidays.

What happened to Noi is that there were fewer land titles along the beach, smaller families so the titles didn't get split up as much. This meant that there was a greater ability to develop each section and now most (but not all) the resorts are 4 or 5 star places.

What has changed?

Never been there before, but when we were on Samui this July, we were recommend Thong nai pan beach area by other travellers on our hotel in Lamai.

So we booked a week next year on Thong tan pan resort, but now i wonder if that is a good thing or bad thing.

Does it mean that there are too many land owners at Tong nai pan yai and that it's difficult for a big company to get enough land to open a 5 stars hotel ?

The short answer is yes.

On Yai there are about 10 resorts that are beach front, plus a few bars, etc, maybe 15 plots of land.

Noi which is slightly smaller has 4 resorts along the beach front (Panviman sits on the rocks at one end, Santhiya just around the rocks on the other so I am not counting them) plus a small plot of land that is going to have a restaurant built on it, total 5 plots of land.

Some of the land titles at the far end of Yai are getting quite big but they extend over both sides of the road, with most of the space on the inland side. To get any reasonably sized piece of land along the beach you would have to buy several neighbouring plots.

Be careful urine checks on KPG roads...

Could you elaborate? The police stop you and ask you to pee in a bottle and then what happens?

I don't use any substances so not worried for myself, just never heard of urine tests on the roads. (Don't you need several days for test results to come in?)
