Transport Minister inspected Chao Phraya River banks for flood-wall construction

BANGKOK, 16 October 2014 (NNT) - The Transport Minister has inspected the banks of the Chao Phraya River where the construction of flood wall is being planned.

Deputy Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisit on Wednesday joined Marine Department Director-General Chula Sulmanop in the inspection of areas along the Chao Phraya River, from Bangkok to Nonthaburi province.

Flood wall and passage ways as well as bicycle lanes are set to be constructed along Thailand’s major river which has been a life line in many aspects for Thai people for centuries.

The construction plans have been suggested by the Marine Department who has also recommended the improvement of 17 piers along the Chao Phraya River, with the first phase of the plan expected to be completed in early 2015.

In addition to the development projects, the Marine Department is hoping to encourage the public to choose water transport more often in order to help alleviate road traffic problems.

Hang on; the money was budgeted for this almost right after the 2011 floods, can't remember how many billion baht was involved. I guess that money is part of the outgoing ministers newly filled booty chests.

"plans"....."suggested"...."recommended"...."expected" says it all.

Huh? Why would you guess that and not that it was spent by YL's administration?

What's a transport minister got to do with flood prevention?

Chao Phraya is used for transportation and the banks of it as well.
