Northeastern provinces popular among tourists this winter

BANGKOK, 14 October 2014 (NNT) – Tourists are visiting many provinces in the upper Northeast in large numbers after temperatures there continuously dropped to mark the beginning of winter in Thailand. Loei province is attracting tourists with its scenic mountains.

Throngs of tourists are swarming into Chiang Khan, Phu Ruea and Phu Ho in Loei in the upper northeastern part of the country. The last mountain, Phu Ho, has grown in popularity recently due to its similarity to Mount Fuji in Japan. Phu Ho is therefore dubbed “the Loei Fuji.”

In Buri Ram province, tourists are flocking to a 265 meters high hanging bridge at Kradong mountain to enjoy scenic views and cold weather. The bridge’s opening hours are extended from 6 AM to accommodate more tourists expected to come this weekend.

4th Army Area Command reaches out to deep southern people more for peace in unrest region

BANGKOK, 14 October 2014 (NNT) – Commander of the Fourth Army Area Commander Lt. Prakan Chonlayut has emphasized that the local people in the southern border provinces need to take part in the process to bring peace back to the restive region.

Lt. Prakan said the 4th Army Area Command’s policy in the southernmost provinces would focus on the local people’s participation rather than deployment of army personnel. The policy was in line with the government’s strategies which sought to gain access to the local people and satisfy their needs, said the army official.

More army officers in the southern border provinces would be replaced with civilian forces such as police officers and security volunteers. The army officers who were responsible for security in high-risk areas would be assigned to help develop communities in line with His Majesty the King’s “Understand, Reach Out and Develop” guidelines, Lt. Prakan added.
