Beer Bottle Temple

Featured Replies

Yes - Wat Lahn Kuat (1 million bottle temple) is in the centre of Meuang Kun Han, a small amphur town 20km west of Kantharalak. Reached from Meuang Sisaket by highways 221 then 2111. Find the main large traffic circle in the very centre of Kun Han town, take the western exit from the circle and it's a few hundred meters down that road to turn right - there are English signs around

Map and a picture attached. Other pictures, if you can find the area in Google Earth, can be clicked open.

The wat is an interesting curiosity - the whole temple and all it's buildings are made from empty bottles. Worth an hour's visit if you are in the area. Special trip for this alone? 80 klicks would be my limit! Combine it with an excellent pizza from Pizza4U (falang bar/restaurant in Kantharalak) to make it more worthwhile and for a day out nip 30k south of Kantharalak to visit the park and overlook of Prasat Phra Wihan (temple still unaccessible? I think so but it may now be open). Otherwise there is a nice waterfalls park with swimming and picnicing that is 10km south of Kun Han.

Thanks for that. Very helpful indeed, especially the additional suggestions..

best info you could get, from Santisuk. I would wish to add, any foreigner in Thailand should include in his last will, to be cremated in the temple of the million bottles. It is worthy a place for the end of a journey for every alcoholic !!

i like to add, that not very far from the million botle temple, there is the one and only Isaan ULURU. Well folks, the term ULURU belongs to the AYERS ROCK in Australia. Myself, and a few other travellers, are tempted to claim the term "Isaan Uluru" to this rock formation not far from Kantharalak.

you can gxxxxgle for it, you will find.

good luck
