Europeans not revise planned visits to Thailand despite Koh Tao murders: Survey

Featured Replies

Do you know? I get sick and tired of the usual get out clause: well it happens all over the world ..blah ...blah..blah. But we are not talking about all over the world, the killings are Thailand related! So now it's not because of: but it's in spite of the killings, the customers are still coming back, and does Double Killings of this nature happen in English Holiday Resorts? I think not!

Neither to my knowledge does a double beach killing, such as this one, happen in Scotland, Wales.or Ireland! and include the Scilly Iles, and Channel Islands, and outer Hebredes, and Shetlands in that !

You're right, but to be honest, it's the investigation or lack of it that would make me think twice were I a tourist.

If i wanted to go to Koh tao it wouldn't affect me at all. Th reason i wouldn't go there is that it is a tip. More seven elevens than the average street in Bangkok! Island paradise...yeh right. Its a building site and i can see better fish at my local aquarium and not have to deal with those annoying dive shop cowboys.

You, you, you, mean it's not a " normally tranquil island paradise"?

But every report of the murders says it is. Are you sure you're thinking of the right island, lol.

Who pays or the party get what he ordered!!!!!!!!!!!! Especially from an no name reseach company called Envirosel . There is no evedence in any part of the results of this reseach.

There are no clear indications, as this survey has been concluded:

But well , every survey in Thailand seems to be done in this way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just they try to show Thailands best face that is not excisting!

Welcome to Th europeans ! But I think europeans are discovering the truth they've been deprived of for decades. Europeans love honesty. Not FACE. They were raised that way.

Of course not. Why would they?

They want to go to the island, visit a certain bar, take photos with a certain man and spread it on social media. It was him. He did it. The little b...

This research is utter nonsense.

why? - please be more clear on why you think this.

Hold on here. 39% said they might review their plans. And the conclusion is that these incidents did not effect their desire to travel here? Am I missing something?

Hopefully, they will not visit the desperate, violent, crime infested, sewer island of Tao. The diving there is marginal at best. Diving in the Chumporn area is much better. And in the Andaman it is outstanding. Tao is a marginal place from a standpoint of diving and snorkeling. I have never seen visibility over 8-10 meters, and it is usually about 3-7 meters. And I have had many dives there. Never again. I am never going there again. And I am discouraging everyone I come in contact with to impose a lifetime ban on those horrendous families that rule the island like 12th century despots, and the ridiculous, homicidal son that is now world famous for his uncontrollable rages, killing sprees, enormous ego, very low self esteem, and the mind of an 11 year old, locked inside the body of a man. Same can be said of the father.

They should have asked how many of them would be willing to visit Koh Tao... coffee1.gif

I hope none. There are a lot other places to go.

All, Thai surveys are full of ridicule.

When the buses were surveyed for pollution they only selected the orange air buses to print the result.

I have just returned from the UK and 90% of people are not going. Flight to BKK contained 30% of capacity. Few Caucasians.

No groups or obvious holiday trippers seen at all.

74 percent of the tourists did not doubt the investigation into the murders... really. cheesy.gif

European tourists still like to visit Thailand despite of the British tourist murders in Koh Tao

BANGKOK: -- The murder of two British backpackers in Koh Tao has no impact on decision making of European tourists as most of them still do not change their minds and will continue to visit Thailand.

Over 80 percent of them said they still like Thailand despite of the recent development, according to the New York-based consumer research firm Envirosell.

The US-based research firm conducted a survey of European tourists opinions about visits to Thailand, during October 13 and 16.

A total of 1,835 would-be visitors to Thailand were surveyed.

They are broken down to 618 British and the remaining 1,217 are from eight other countries in Europe.

More than half or 61 percent of the respondents said they would not reconsider their planned visits to Thailand whereas the remaining 39 percent indicated they might review their plan, depending on the developments of the murder case on Koh Tao.

Besides, 74 percent of the tourists did not doubt the investigation into the murders, while 26% cast doubts about the case because they had heard about lack of transparency in the investigation from the media.

However 85 percent of respondents said they still liked Thailand despite recent developments.

Asked what improvements they would like to see most, the respondents indicated they wanted to see improved tourist safety and more assistance centers for tourists, harsher penalties for exploiters of tourists, and better regulation of tours and taxis.

Have they really considered what it means to have 40% of high value tourists who intend to travel to Thailand reconsidering their travel plans?

If half of those don't come, that is a 20% drop in their highest spenders. I am all for rosy tints, but this is actually a quite grave statistic if it is half true.

Again not what was said...

"might reconsider "

Consider and might reconsider is a knats hair away from each other in meaning. I am not sure it is possible to differentiate the might reconsider and reconsider in meaning, since both require considering something.

It is a really bad result to have this many people reconsider their plans

Looking for other places to go or might look for other places to go....

Very very different...

Might think about and might think about thinking about is the same result.

74 percent of the tourists did not doubt the investigation into the murders... really. cheesy.gif

any cop allowing a suspect to be on the crime scene with investigation on course in UE or US or australia..japan...would immediately be fired or suspended...questioned at least

This is actually much worse than the (wrong) numbers in the OP!!

Have seen the whole survey, and out of those surveyed only 10% had considered going to Thailand within the next two years!!

Out of those 10%, 39% might reconsider!! Makes sense?

TAT can give us whatever numbers they want (and they do!), but the Chinese and the Russians can't replace the revenueloss from the higherspending and friendlier European tourists!!

Not for the first time in history: Arrogance leading to the fall of a nation!!coffee1.gif

Indeed and even more stupidly, the premise for all these massive numbers of Chinese tourists was zero cost tours funded by gouging the tourists while they are Thailand. All a complete sham of a business.

And yet, they still claim they don't care if the numbers of "farang" tourists don't matter. It is denial of the worse kind and it will bite them eventually

Denial is often times a sign of a lack of emotional development. I know many will say it has to do with "face", but really all face is, is the ultimate form of cowardice. It is the complete inability to look within. It is an absolute refusal to introspect, and determine if perhaps the problem lies within me, myself, and I. Or within my company or organization. It is the opposite of personal, or spiritual growth. I believe the mere embrace of face denies the possibility of personal growth. How you can you get to know yourself, if you are unwilling to look within for the answers? It is easy to blame the world. But, in the long run very costly, and very unproductive. Sooner or later these agencies are going to start having to be accountable, and start being straight and honest with the people. They have gotten away with bald faced lies for too long now. And I am not sure if anybody believes them anymore. I think they are totally discredited, due to their own doing. Same with the Thai government.
