A French tourist was arrested yesterday (October 25) for possession of cocaine.

PHUKET: A French tourist was arrested yesterday (October 25) for possession of 313.09 grams of cocaine at his house in Baan Sabai Village, Kathu.

Police were called to the scene after receiving a call from the neighbours claiming they could hear a fight coming from inside the house.

Upon arrival, Thungtong police found the tourist, Jeremy Alexander Victor Pirad, 26, and three others; Maxim Ferrandez, 23, Sirinya Pidtaratae, 29, from Buriram province and Wikanda Ngamprasert, 24, from Uthaithani province.

Pol Maj Gen Patchara Boonyasit said, “We have to thank Thungtong police for acting smartly. Aside from marijuana, we also found 30 packs of cocaine hidden in the closet.”

According to police, when Mr Maxim saw the police he dropped his cigarette in shock. Mr Jeremy ran upstairs to his bedroom and attempted to hide the small generator in his closet (where the cocaine was hidden).

The three others were found smoking marijuana.

Mr Jeremy confessed that two Nigerian men were hiding the cocaine in the house and paid him B20,000.

However, he claimed that this was the first time he had done this.

“According to Mr Jeremy’s confession, we can only arrest one Nigerian man Oshi-Oma Declan, 30, and his wife Songsee Khamsee, 31, for the 20 grams of cocaine.

“They are also dealers, but we are still looking for another Nigerian man who personally dealt with Mr Jeremy.”

Pol Maj Gen insisted that police would continue to search for the other people involved.

“We believe that there is another group of drug dealers who are targeting tourists in Phuket. We will continue to look for them.

Research article Reports of evidence planting by police among a community-based sample of injection drug users in Bangkok, Thailand

"Drug policy in Thailand has relied heavily on law enforcement-based approaches. Qualitative reports indicate that police in Thailand have resorted to planting drugs on suspected drug users to extort money or provide grounds for arrest. The present study sought to describe the prevalence and factors associated with this form of evidence planting by police among injection drug users (IDU) in Bangkok."

Yes and when I was a kid in Cincinnati's Norwood suburb it was common knowledge there such practices occurred, certainly not unique to Thailand ... :)

Thank you very much that you share this information. I always expected things like this can happen easy in Thailand, but this link and the following links (References 22. "Treatment for People Who Use Drugs in Thailand" ) are really an eye opener to the whole story of the last 10 years "War on drugs" in Thailand. Maybe difficult to understand, but I think drug dependence is an illness to be treated, and not a crime to be punished?

But this has (hopefully) nothing to do with this press story and foreign dealers in Thailand.

I think it's mostly a choice.

The way he wears his shirt must be the latest French fashion.

Nah...its the Thai adaption of a hoodie ..... Lost face version.

Police dont wear it....they just point at others otherwise they look like culprits

hahahahahaha

I thought their job was detecting it in the hands of the dealer, not in the users......small fish victory! another badge to their collection.

313 grams isn't a small amount. Long time in jail for a crappy 20k.

Yea that is a little over 11 ounces, he's just screwed a large part of his life up. Live it up Frenchy
