And the ninth most dangerous for men using private transport.

If we are going to have a topic like this we may as well add an equally daft twist to the it.

You forgot to mention, how can we expect the PM to change it after only 5 months in office after the "intervention"!!rolleyes.gif

I bet it wasn't easy for you to change the topic into a hate the PM excuse.

Do you want to use this as a hate campaign ??

Everyday as there are so many negative comments on this board that targets thailand, to I'm often thinking, if everything is so negative and bad, why do you live in thailand, which head are you thinking with?

it is perhaps better to stay in their "safe" homeland for the time, unless the Islamists taking over Europe's streets.

They are already there, that's why a hell of a lot ARE HERE.

So the Tokyo subway system does not make the top ten but Bangkok does.

Maybe all of the International press reports and the Japanese train porn industry got it all totally wrong.

"Maybe all of the international press reports"

And ofcourse your knowledge on the the subject is solely based on what you read in the newspapers??giggle.gif

Well considering that I am unable to simultaneously be in every country in the world, I do sometimes have to rely on the international press to find out some news or information.

And your point is?

While I agree, to a certain extent with you, my suspicion [and experience with one of the countries you mention] is that either women don't use public transport or some form of segregation is in place to keep men and women apart. Not for any reasons of concern about the women's welfare though, purely ideological.

BANGKOK: -- Women commuters in Bangkok report feeling feel less safe than those in Moscow, Manila, Paris and Seoul.

Overall Bangkok was the eighth least secure city for women using public transportation, coming in at the median in a report on 16 cities published Wednesday by the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

Women in Bogota, Columbia, reported feeling the least safe in the poll, which surveyed 380 to 513 women in each of 16 cities around the world.

The poll surveyed six key indicators. While Bangkok respondents reported relatively low incidents of verbal and physical harassment, they reported an overall sense that public transportation was not safe and that no one would help them if they were abused.

Women aren't allowed out of the house in some of those countries, and certainly not alone and riding on public transport.

Does Somalia even have public transport?

BANGKOK: -- Public transportation in Bangkok is unsafe for women to travel at night, according to a Thomson Reuters Foundation survey of some of the world's largest cities.

The poll of the world’s 15 largest capitals and New York, found Bogota in Colombia ranked as having the most unsafe public transport, with women scared to travel after dark.

The survey, conducted from more than 6,550 women and gender experts, looks at harassment on public transportation systems in the world’s largest cities.

Women were asked six questions relating to: how safe they felt traveling alone at night; the risk of being verbally harassed by men; the risk of being groped or subjected to other forms of physical harassment; trust that other passengers would assist a woman being physically or verbally abused; and trust in authorities to investigate reports of sexual harassment or violence.

According to the survey, six in 10 women in major Latin American cities report they’ve been physically harassed while using transport systems, with Bogota, Colombia, found to have the most unsafe public transportation, followed by Mexico City and Lima, Peru.

Bangkok came eighth among the 16 cities surveyed in terms of safety after dark for women to travel on public transport.

For verbal harassment and physical harassment categories, Bangkok is 12th worst, and 5th worst in categories on assistance offered by others if you were being abused on public transport and the availability of safe public transport in the city.

Moscow was ranked as the worst European capital, coming ninth in the list, with women lacking confidence that authorities would investigate reports of abuse. Paris came 11th due to little confidence that other passengers would help a woman in trouble.

New York was rated as the best of the 16 cities studied followed by Tokyo, the world’s largest capital with 38 million people, then Beijing and London.

Here are the results, from ranked from worst to best:

1. Bogota, Colombia
