Anyone on TV who use the 50m public pool at Sapanhin regularly and know if the water quality is good and best time to visit for lap swimming without being in the middle of a school class?

Thanks

Felt.

I wouldn't go there during the next two weeks, it's one of the "Cluster" areas for the Asian Beach Games.

eh..... of course "Beach Games" in a swimming pool would be the ordinary herebiggrin.png

Yes its open for public, its on the left side coming from Town. I used the place 3-4 years ago for a while. Water okay and friendly owner /gardener. That time it opened, IMO a bit late 1000am, don't know now.Think to remember it was THb 40,- for entrance. Its 25meter long but a bit shallow so get quickly heated up in the high season. Go there when opening and outside of school holidays and an hour swim should be easy to get in without to much obstacles to pass.

There are actually two public pools at Saphan Hin, the large one run by the OrBorJor near the A/C Indoor Stadium and second, smaller one run by the municipality.

The OrBorJor one is better and you can get in laps there if it isn't too crowded.

One downside is that it is located right across the street from where all the solid waste on the island is incinerated.

I have got a mixed experience when for the second time for one month trying out the 50m pool at Saphan hin since they opened. Pros; quiet area and easy accessible location, not crowdy at least when I went in the mornings and none disturbed or get in the way of my laps the hour I spent there each time.

Cons; Water quality ranged from decent to not acceptable IMO and my experience ended with a stomach infection and flu / fever. No I don't drink the water but when swimming freestyle for an hour, its near to impossible to avoid some water getting inhaled. Now with a snorkel or doing breast swimming and keeping your head over the water surface all the time would probably help!

When the above is said and which I thought about each time I visited the place a few small cost saving measures from the local Government /management of the pool will raise the quality of it to be one of the the best place swimming on the island.

First decent water pressure in the showers in the shower room but also at the showers outside near the pool. Two, set up signs in Thai, Russian and English, no shower no swimming and a management which enforce the rules. Three, more regularly cleaning of sand and shit from the bottom of the pool.

Of the measures above the most important is naturally that the public who use the pool take a good shower before jumping in. Which again will save the management work and overly use of chemicals to keep it clean when at the same time give the public a clean and hygienic swimming pool to use.

Btw, I think by now they can increase the price so at least it cover water pressure in the showers.

Are there any lap-pools on the east side near Karon Beach or Patong or north of Patong? i.e. 25m or 50m for regularr swimming exercise?

I know it once was a decent sized pool in a village complex that time called Baan Benjamas in Patong. Don't know if the place still there or eventually name on it now. It was not made for lap swimming but you got 20-25 meter out of it swimming in the middle.

A bit away from Karon but have you tried the Home Country club on Chaofa East. Just 2-3Km from Chalong circle.
